The valve wizard is Merlin Blenciowe, and he lives pretty close to me, although we've never met. His website and books are a great resource. The books especially contain an incredible depth to them that took me years to really absorb.

In terms of getting your hands dirty and building stuff, there are some great Facebook groups on modern designs and there are lots of people offering high quality PCBs now. The great thing with PCBs is that you can't really fuck things up that much as the hardwork has already been done in the layout.

awesome! might have to order
The books are helpful but there is a LOT of info free on the web too. Use a computer. Easier to read than on a phone.

And while not quite as in depth, if you want to understand signal flow of some amps (mainly older Fender/Marshall) , Rob Robinette’s site is pretty helpful.

Also Doug Hoffman’s site has a forum for DIY builders as well as schematics and resources.

I've been very tempted to do it, and obviously time is ticking, but I don't think its going to work out.
Fuckin' people getting old... Bruce stopping the course, Chubtone wrapping up this year... Too many good things, not enough time.

Of course, I'll do none of those things, and spend my money on something different. :D
