trey85stang2 wrote: Thu May 09, 2024 2:23 am serious suggestion, what about the jet city hand wired amps? Didnt you get one of those 800 when they first made them and like it? Cant beat the price.
YeahI had one. It was ok but I wasn't too impressed with it. I think with a few upgrades it could be a great amp though.

I LOVE the Soldano designed JCAs I think they're a great way to get the Soldano tone on a budget. They're all well built and pretty close to the originals (Hot Rods, not SLO). The current line, I'm not too impressed with.
JEL and PPIMV modded JCA800 is a win in my book tone-wise, although I wouldn't trust them at a gig unless you put some money into upgrading the iron and inspecting every solder joint i.e. not worth it.

Maybe buy a DSL40C combo and then get the conversion head shell?

With your requirements I would probably look as well at BRBS:

https://www.brbsamplification.com/en/p ... tage-class

Or, if the budget range has some flexibility:

https://www.brbsamplification.com/en/p ... tageclass3

Probably difficult to find and sell on the used market in the US - though Doug Rappaport is endorsing, this is even in Europe kind of an exotic brand.

BadCat Lynx. It's on my EXTREMELY short list of amps to try.

Too much junk to list with 255 characters.

Funny you should mention it, I just played this amp today. We have a Bad Cat dealer here and Raf mentioned this amp yesterday and I had the morning off so I went to check it out.

I liked it a lot but it's not an amp for me. There's definitely a ton of gain and it sounds great but it's a bit too thick for my taste. Lots of low end and low midrange. I like more "transparent" gain for the lack of a better term. Like with a Marshall you can have a lot of gain but there's still clarity.

I think it would be a great amp for stoner/doom. Or maybe for metal with a boost to tighten up the low end a bit.

Damn that's really cool. I hadn't heard of this brand before but the tone and features of the Vintage Classic are great.
