Amp suggestions

Post by Guitarbilly »

So I'm looking for an amp within the following parameters:

Marshall based tones
EL34s
Loop
Good master volume
Lunchbox size (around the DS mini size)
50w or higher
Dual or single channel doesn't matter
Readily available new or used, no custom orders
Under $2k although I could go a bit higher but not $3-4k amps

So basically the size of the DS mini, the headroom of the 2204, the master volume and loop of the DSL, all rolled into ONE amp

I know Victory Amps has some good options that meet all these requirement, like the RK50 for example. What else?

Would a THD Flexi 50 work?

on paper, it would, but I don't think that's an amp for me. It's very dark and mushy. I won't say it's a bad amp since it's well built etc
and I can see it working for some players but it's kind of on the opposite spectrum of what I like lol
But I'm going by 10+ year old memories here since I haven't played one in a long time. But I remember not liking it. I'll watch some clips though.

Soldano SLO30

Amazing amp. Easily keeps up with 50 watt amps. It has big ass transformers and 30 watts is extremely conservative.

I know it’s 5881 based but crunch mode with the gain up is very close to 800 tones.

Can be found for $2k and less.

Man that SLO30 wouldn’t be a bad buy at all, especially used.

The "problem" with the SLO 30 is I'll invariably want the SLO 100 shortly after. I don't think I have the necessary self-control to have the smaller version of that amp, no matter how good it is, my brain won't leave me alone if I don't get the 100w

Idk man, I played the 30 and it fucks real hard.

If I was buying all over again I’d probably go with a used 30.

But I wasn’t about to put the 100 on reverb and then buy another used amp because of the shipping hassles.

Man I WISH they had a small box DSL 50. That would be great!! Or if the DSL20 sounded close to the bigger one, that would've been nice too
