After many years of trying this cab, this speaker, and endless combos in between. I settled on a few speakers I like. And I swapped THOSE around between my 4x12s to find the golden goose. It definitely isn’t a fun process but I ended up with 2 cabs I’m absolutely happy with. They BOTH do great with all 3 of my amps which I do bring all 3. Altho, beleive it or not I’ve sorta settled on the xxx on most shows… Idk. Sumthin about it just always delivers live. I. The room, I wouldn’t always choose it but when it’s in the band it just always works… blabla.
So for this clip tho I used the EVH 5153 el34 100 watter. BLUE channel straight in. I’ve also got that amp dialed in great too. And while I love playing thru both channels in the room and live, I typically stick to the blue channel when doing this slayer shit. I’ll do red but mostly blue, gain on 10 and that also comes across great.
The cab is my old trusty dusty PV 5150 cab but it doesn’t have all 16 ohm EVH Celestions. Even tho those weren’t the stock speakers for that cab, i swear they really are voiced pretty damn similar to the Sheffield’s. They always said they were Greenback based and they really are to my ears and tests. But the Evh has the mids smoothed out a bit more and for this setup, I like that…
Anyway, made this up basically on the spot, just a 57 on speaker and I cut a few passes. It’s the same settings on the amp and same spot I marked for the mic.

Sounds killer man!!! Goddamn that's the perfect metal tone for my taste. Heavy as shit but not grating on the ears like a lot of modern bands these days.
That was a bit confusing. It DOESN'T have the EVH speakers or it does? What speakers are in it then?
Re: Current live tone (clip)
I assume does have the EVH speakers lol
Sounds awesome!

Thanks man! Yeah I really feel as far as dialing in.. No pedals, just straight in. I couldn’t be much happier. And the red channel get more brutal and aggressive of course but I like both!Guitarbilly wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 10:08 am Sounds killer man!!! Goddamn that's the perfect metal tone for my taste. And yeah I worded it wrong, or like it autocorrected. It’s the Evh Celestions. With that said, I STILL use a couple of my PV Sheffield’s in my other cab I made mixed with the 65 watt creambacks. Odd perhaps I swapped out the ACTUAL PV cab and then still used those speakers. Lol. But I just went where it seemed to go best. And thru plenty of trial and error, I swear these 2 speakers, the Evh Celestion and the PV sheffield are definitely in the same ballpark. At least the ones I have. Altho I have a suspicion PV did end up changing suppliers or sumthin happened at one point cause I have had a couple of pretty foul sounding Sheffield 1200. But that’s a story for another day!

Re: Current live tone (clip)
I think I'm going to buy a quad of these EVH speakers. Even though your tone has a lot more gain than I'd ever use, the texture of it is pretty much perfect. The mids are smooth and the high end is just right. They will probably work well with the DSL.
Peavey used to make their own speakers in the 90s and most of the 00s. I believe Eminence is making them now.
They're making the PV bass speakers for sure, but I'm not sure about the guitar speakers

Re: Current live tone (clip)
That’s why I use them. Is that smoothness across the mids. The el34 5153 is not shy on mids. So I found many speakers just had too much. The Evh are definitely scooped compared to other speakers out there and they have a surprisingly big low end. In the right cab it thumps, maybe in the wrong cab it’ll be different but I’ve tried em in a few different ones and it’s never too far out of check. But I agree they have this texture thru the mids and highs that really does sound great. And It definitely hits my ears right!Guitarbilly wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 3:24 pm I think I'm going to buy a quad of these EVH speakers.
