Breaking out some OLD ONES

Post by Endtime »

Well first, Ive sold off most of my speaker experiments, which was well worth it.. bUt I had one last purchase wanting to pair Some of the Eminence CV75 16 ohm with my Creamback 65 in the 4x12 I made with my bare hands!! haha But for real, I made that to be MY cab.. Right.? And it was good, but it could've bee better and I had those cv75 before and I regretted letting em go.. And This is literally one mic on the cv75 and the other on the Creamback.. In the room, even the drummer mentioned its better. so YOU KNOW IM on the right path! lol..

But the "Old ones" were, my old 5150 2x12 combo.. I was gonna take it apart and do some repairs and I realized I bought the wrong value part!! D'Oh.. Fuck it.. Ill just jam thru it and its still bad ass..

And the other old one is the GGD Invasion Drum kit.. This one is mostly Raw and I spent literally 2-3 hours today, going thru all the vids of people using this and what they do to get the best out of it.. I actually have done this to some degree over the years.. This was my first aftermarket kit.. And its still really good.. About as tight and punchy as one can get.. Maybe to a fault.. But it punches better than any... And I like mixing drums with actual out of the box processing where the samples are more raw and unprocessed... And I feel I got a really legit sound here.. And the good thing is, for the most part its gonna be more unique cause its all my EQ moves etc.. I just used some of the tricks others were using to get a bit more "sustain" from this kit.. Which is basically a lot of parallel comps and sending certain drums thru this and some thru that etc.. It was fun getting it to come to life. Cause this little things all worked pretty well!

Quick clip with the 5150 comb.. Straight in to the red. https://app.box.com/s/nl85ru78c6oo71l6l43e727smc3nibre

Sounds great man!!! The riff and tone has the Annihilator vibe that I hear on some of your thrash playing. Which is awesome because Waters is one of my favorite players in that style.

Sounds great! I would never have guessed these drums were programmed. 5150 combo sounds awesome, as usual.

Coolio. Yeah, Annihilator is a good band. Waters style is unique. And I figured out why it might sound a bit like him, it’s because when I do these sorta “demos” or quick one offs, 90% of the time I literally just wrote the riff or part on the spot. My own little drum jam. Just load up or create a beat and hit record and the first thing that makes any sort of sense, I double it and that’s that! And usually when I WRITE tunes for my band ms it’s gotta have a little more of an edge or darkness to it. Annihilated was never about that dark sound but just the sound of the riffs and the musicality. And I think I lean more towards that vibe when I’m basically just messing around. And just coming from the “space between the thoughts”. How about that psychoanalysis? Lol

the other part of my experiment was to see how close the combo and el34 can be dialed in. I did this before but I didn’t get too successful. But I got REAL close this time. The el34 just had so much more bass/resonance on hand. I really gotta dial it back. But the fat is the combo isn’t deficient in bass. It’ll get to where one needs to go, it just rarely becomes too bloated. So it actually helped me look at the el34 a bit differently. The Evh is obviously tweaked and cleared up a bit and not quite as smeared, but I got em damn near identical. Which is good l, cause we are playing Gary Indiana next week, and I ain’t bringing my BIG boy to that gig! Haha. They getting the 30 year old OLD one, but the tone really will be damn similar. Now I should say, I have to sorta dial the EL34 In towards the combo rather than vice versa, but I love the old combos tone. In some ways it’s still perhaps the best balance of aggression, low end(without mud). The 100watt we just does it with more authority and clarity.
