Ordered the Synergy Fortin Killer Kali
Re: Ordered the Synergy Fortin Killer Kali
I am shocked at how much the videos online remind me of my modded ADA MP1 and that is a good thing. It is my all-time favorite over-the-top gain sound. It may be the high mids or the dual gain controls, but the sound is very similar. This and the syn 20 head may end up on my list since I don't like dragging the rack around anymore due to the weight and the fact I can't find ADA for $50 now if something happened to it.

I fired up the Killer Kali for a few minutes last night to make sure that it worked. Started with all the knobs at noon and no switches on. Thought it was broken at first! Huge range of gain on this thing. Can dial in from clean to as nasty as you would ever need. Ended up with the switches basically in the JCM800'ish settings according to the manual. Did not have the volume up very high and have not tried in a mix yet. Will have some time for that tonight. So far so good.

Re: Ordered the Synergy Fortin Killer Kali
Yeah it's a great sounding module! I still like the Deliverance II better but this one is awesome if you want sort of that next step up in aggression compared to the BE DLX module (Which I'm sending back tomorrow).
LOTS of control over the top end with the 2 different presence switches but they act VERY similar to the Pre EQ and Schizo switches on my XTC module.
Each one does shift the top end focus around but also the up and down positions add a lot more gain and the middle position is less gain and less aggressive top end.
EQ shape switch is interesting but I GREATLY prefer the big uncompressed and open sound of the up position. Violence switch engaged for the high gain stuff on the red channel and blue channel I have it disengaged for a nice crunch sound.
Not a fan of the saturation switch but I also didn't like what it did on the BE DLX module either. The module already has a stupid amount of gain on tap with the violence switch engaged. Saturation just compresses it to where it sounds almost choked out.

Too much junk to list with 255 characters.

I agree with pretty much all of that. After spending a couple of hours with the Killer Kali on Friday night, that is just about exactly where mine ended up being set by the end of the night.
