Late night NAD lol

Post by Guitarbilly »

Around 8:30 last night I was looking at Facebook marketplace and I saw a deal I couldn't pass on: a Laney GH50L and the matching 4x12 for $500!! :
And 30 minutes away from my house. So I messaged the guy and told him I wanted to pick it up IMMEDIATELY
Thankfully he agreed so I got it.

(The bottom one is the new one, I already had the top one).

Anyway, it sounds great!! It came with 6L6s, which I promptly changed to EL34s, biased them and gave the amp a full cleaning since it had been sitting unused in his garage.

I had been using my other Laney on recent gigs and I'm pretty happy with it. They still have a bit of a Marshall sound to them, being a British amp, but they aren't Marshall copies, they have lower mids, which make them darker and chewier overall. Maybe a cross between a Marshall and Orange? Even a bit of the Soldano Avenger... but they have their own tone.

The 4x12 has the stock HH speakers and they are voiced for this head so they work well together.

I've been playing these amps on and off since the 90s and it cool to have a couple of them again. :)

Now I need a second cab to return to the "Laney stack" days of HCAF

More not fucking around.

I've always wanted to try one. I bet I'd love it.

Only two man-made structures can be seen from space.

The Great Wall of China, and the Laney logo.

Great score!

I really should get a Laney one of these days. I think the old GHs like this would do exactly what I want an amp to do. Also would be curious to see where it sets between my Metro, 5150 and Rockerverb.
More guitars than anyone could need
—————
Metropoulos Metroplex Mk I
Egnater Seminar Amp 50
Orange Rockerverb 50 Mk III
Peavey 5150
Fender 1976 Vibrolux Reverb
—————
Marshall 1960A G12M25 Greenbacks
Metropoulos Slant 2x12 G12H75 Creambacks.

V30s. A little less mids and highs but pretty minimal. I use the exact same settings with my Marshall V30 cab and the Laney HH cab and the sound is 90% the same.
