Heads up: Cheapo shreder alert

Post by nightflameauto »

Got alerts set on Jacksons here or there for evil intent, and got notices for two that aren't really what I'm looking for but thought somebody might like.

Both MSRP $649, both currently under $300 open box. I've bought open box from them before and they rarely have more than minor surface scratches. Those'd probably be decent mod platforms if you get along with HSS setups and either blocked or replaced the trem. For just north of pedal money, somebody around here may want one. :idk:

whoa that IS a good deal!!! I think the X series Jacksons are really good guitars. They need a better tremolo and at least a better bridge pickup, but I always look at superstrats as hot-rod platforms anyway. I am tempted to pick up the purple one. I have a gotoh trem and a Tone Zone laying round around here... :hmm:

I thought you might be one of the takers. The purple is cool, but the pale blue kinda called to me. Too bad I rarely get along with middle pickups on shreddy guitars. I typically bash the pick into them, or have to lower them all the way down.

I've never picked up an X Series that didn't play nice in the shops, even in shops that aren't typically known for doing their own setups.

I had a X series Soloist that - after upgrading the pickups and trem - gave my '01 USA Soloist a good run for the money. Yes, the USA was nicer overall, ebony board, better inlays etc, but damn, the X was close. Neck profile was the exact same, action and intonation were great and it sounded really good (with the DiMarzios, the stock pickups were crap).

These have been on sale forever. I almost bit on the blue one but then I did a quick look at some reviews. These have serious QC issues. There are a lot of "open box" guitars available because of how often they were returned.

I was beginning to wonder because I saw they put up two more in the last couple hours of the exact same model/finishes. Bummer. Shoulda known because they don't typically discount open boxes that steeply.

It really is too bad because maple neck on that blue is super sexy.

As long as the QC issues are not pertinent to the body and neck integrity, I am still good with it. I see this as a finished body/neck platform for hot rodding.

I'm not a Jackson guy, but I'd take the purple one at $300 if I wanted a wang bar.

For sure, as long as you know what you are getting into. I seems to recall some neck issues (frets?) too.
