Peavey Ultra 120 Head and Custom 4x12

Post by MikeO »

Peavey Ultra 120 amp head (120 watts all tube) and custom 4x12 speaker cabinet. $750

The Ultra 120 is the pre-curser to the Peavey XXX and JSX series amps. It's the full amp version of the renowned Peavey Rockmaster preamp. Three channels: Clean, Crunch and Ultra. The clean channel is very Fendery, the crunch channel is very Marshally, and the ultra channel lands squarely in Mesa territory (tons of gain and lots of bottom end). Includes footswitch, which changes channels and turns the reverb on and off.

The speaker cabinet is a Laney GH series cabinet that happens to match up very well (sonically and size wise) with the Ultra head. The stock HH speakers have been replaced with two Celestion Vintage 30's and two Eminence V12's in an X pattern, which complement each other very well. This cabinet is a beast, very heavy due to the 50 oz magnets in each speaker and the quality of wood used in its construction.

The preamp tubes were hand selected based on what each tube is doing, they were chosen to maximize whatever function that particular 12AX7 was responsible for (ie. input stage, gain stages, effects send and return buffering, phase inverter). The power tubes are relatively new with very little use on them (maybe 10-15 hours).

As you can see in the pictures, the face of the amp has been customized. The front panel has been replaced with a piece of stained wood, but there is a second panel behind the front panel, which my daughter and I decorated with some of our favorite Marvel characters. They are only decals, so they can easily be removed if that is your preference.

I'm in Danbury, CT, and would be willing to drive a reasonable distance to deliver it or meet someone halfway. I am open to trades as well, make me an offer, the worst I can do is say no thank you.
