It's funny to think my Jet City 100LTD sounds dead like this and also knowing no, that sounds way more incredible! It's like my old Soldano Hotrod 50+ vs my current Jet City amps. They are 95% there, but that last 5% is what makes the amp. My dream amp is an SLO-100, but I will take the SLO-30 any day of the week!

I think the Soldano designed Jet City amps are excellent. When compared to the Hot Rod they're indeed 95% there and you can close that gap even more with very simple upgrades.


With the SLO it's a bit different. There is a quality to the sound, and especially the feel, that is unique to the SLO. You feel it under your pick. It's a beefy solid feel even when you're not using a lot of gain or boosting it. Hard to describe in words or capture in YT videos.I'm constantly rotating different amps with the band and no one ever comments on it. This last practice with the SLO, Kimmi commented "wow this amp sounds like the record" I asked what she meant by that, and she said the guitar sounded way clearer. And it did, even though I was technically using more gain than I usually use with the Marshalls.

Yeah the SLO is next level. It does sound exactly like a well polished record and sits perfect while feeling easy to play. It’s weird how no matter what gain level you’re using it still feels right.


When I played and heard Shea’s I knew I had to have one. First time I’ve ever had that sudden of a realization that I needed to spend thousands of dollars immediately


I said this earlier but most of Soldano’s amps have a similar gain structure but the SLO has something the others don’t.

The SLO 30 is very much on my radar. I know everyone says it punches hard for a 30 watt amp, but how is it really...when side by side with a 50 watt?

The only 50w amps I have at the moment are the 1987X and the 2204. These amps are in a class of their own in terms of volume, as they are louder than most 100w amps I've had. These old school Marshalls are just brutally loud. Especially the 1987x since it has no master volume.

But comparing the SLO30 to a modern 50w amp like say, the EVH 5510 III 50w, the SLO is just as loud and big. The main difference I noticed is on the EVH I was getting my stage volume with the master volume around 3, while on the SLO30, to get the same volume I need to have the master around 4-5. Other than that, I wouldn't have noticed that one amp has less wattage than the other.

That's something to compare, I guess. I am usually at 3.5 on the volume control on my EVH 50 during band practice. Not sure how much that means, though.

Yeah that would probably be around 5 on the SLO-30.

By the way, the pot has a lot of volume range. It's not like other amps where you go up to 5 and from there you get more distortion but not volume.
You get actual volume increases until around 7 on the master, which at that point is enough to drown a drum kit.

Yeah, the EVH seems to taper out around 5 for volume.
