Jamming this old-ish song

I've been jamming with my old drummer Marc again, mainly because he's been a good friend of mine for over a decade, and we sort of lost touch 4 years ago. He used to be in my band. But I just missed my friend and wanted to hang and jam with him again.

We've got 3 songs like 90% down, and are starting to work on another. But this song is one I've posted here a few times. My cousin and I wrote this some years ago, but with him being gone for a couple of years, now, it's sorta just sat around. So we are trying to dust off some of these songs and jam them. Hopefully get them ready for recording and release something in his memory. Marc was good friends with him as well and hung and wrote with us, too.

Anyway...iPhone video. The phone was on top of my amp. I typically have been taking my 212 to his place to jam since it's easier to move, but decided to take the D'Oronzo cab. I have to say...I don't know if I like 212s anymore haha. The 412 just sounded so much more massive!! EVH 50 6l6 and my Bauer strat with a Blackened Black Winter in it. Pedal board is the standard one for me...Lekato wireless that I use for practices, Strobo Stomp tuner, GupTech SUN noise gate, and now the Eventide Blackhole. The cab has a pair of Mesa V30s and a pair of Redbacks in x-pattern.

The only issue I really had was the low end was simply overblown like crazy! I think the EVH 50s have this somewhat artificial feeling low end that attempts to make the amp sound bigger than it actually is. Most of the time it's fine, but sometimes, depending on the room, can get this digital sounding woof to it. The D'Oronzo cab comes with a half removable back panel, and 2 different panels, one vented and one sealed. I had the vented panel on it, which does tend to make the low end seem bigger, so I think between the amp, the cab, and the big echo-y room, it was just too much. I swapped to the sealed panel last night and will take it over there again in a week or 2 to see how it affects the sound and feel.

Yeah, he is pretty creative, and we've been jamming together on and off for about 12 years. Things always came easy for us as a pair.
