Yeah it wasn’t so much which is best.. I posted em cause I did it for my own “research”, and figured maybe it’s interesting to others. Mainly I was playing how a condenser like the 414 works on a fast metal song with high gain shit. I’ve used that mic quite a bit but whenever I tried it by itself before, it didn’t quite get what I wanted. But then I learned to back it off the grill more as it’s simply a way to get the most accurate representation of a cab in most cases and it turned out to be just what was needed..
Plus I was inspired by some older recordings. Specifically this one from Vader from like 96. I think the tone is awesome but it also has a lot more of a “room” sound. Actually room is the wrong word but it’s not so close mic’d and blatantly up front. I really liked the sense of space this has. It honestly sounds like a condenser to me. . Altho it could be just standard 57 on the grill. Lol. But it made me think of a condenser with a little room to let the tone breath.

Vader is one of those bands i just somehow never listened to. listening to this though, i understand what you are saying about the tones, the whole recording has a natural roominess to it which seems like a forgotten art. i do remember trying my TLM102's i use for overheads and being surprised how well they worked on guitars, im gonna try again
