Incoming HX stomp...

Post by spawnofthesith »

I've been super stoked on my HX one since I got it last year, really has become quite integral to my rig and several songs have been written around some of the FX options on there

Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago at a gig it completely died on me during the first song sequence of the set which was really unfortunate. Took me a while to figure out that thats what the problem was while I was trouble shooting. Embarrassing and stressful, but on the bright side once that was sorted and pulled from the path we played one of our best performances of the year so far.

The next day it started up just fine so I'm guessing it was either from heat or the questionable power source for everything (this was an outdoor gig in a park). Anyway, I was able to deduce that there was something else faulty with the pedal because when switched to true bypass mode there was little to no signal passing (in theory, even if the pedal was dead/unpowered, it shouldn't have taken my entire signal with it)

So I sent that to L6 and they're sending me a new one under warranty. However in a tequila haze I ordered an HX stomp (in stormtrooper white!) yesterday, so probably will just try and sell the replacement HX one new in box when it gets here

Looking forward to the expanded FX options it will provide me. I'm only really going to be primarily using it for FX still, but I figure having the modelling on there can serve as a backup plan in case one of my amps ever fail at a gig. I was also bemoaning the fact yesterday that my Mark IV was at my drummers house so I am considering to maaaaybe try just going direct at practice and utilize the modeling there. But we'll see if that actually happens or not/I can be happy with that

Helix does have great effects so I can’t fault anyone for having one of these on their board. The delays alone are outstanding. I think that’s the only thing I miss from my Helix. Gimme the Euclidean delay and a solid clean tone and I could lose hours in that.

Yeah I love the Fx, I wasn’t really able to find anything that I felt could replace my re-202 that I have on half the time, but now that I’ll have the ability to run multiple FX at once I’m gonna see if I can do some compressor A/Bing to see if I can pull that from my board… I was trying pretty hard to with the HX one to see if I could pull my afterneath without success, but maybe with multiple fx might be able to work something up. After that gig incident I’m thinking as few patch cables the better… although ironically it was the multi fx that was the issue so…

Have you tried the H90? I think you'd really enjoy it.

Nice man!! I've been considering a HXFX for the IR-D rig, but the Stomp looks appealing too with the smaller size and added capabilities.

Easily the best line 6 device they've made in years. The price, what it can do, the durability of it and the updates they've made over the years are all just 10/10.

It was my effects unit in the loop of my amps on stage for years. It would run reverb, some EQ if needed as well as noise gate and foot switch chorus, delay and solo boost.

These days it stays in my gig bag as my backup amp and I also bought a 2nd power adpater since the unit uses a weird reverse polarity plug or something.
Too much junk to list with 255 characters.

Hell yeah!

Yeah the power supply is the only thing I'm not to stoked on. I typically loath having more than one power cord coming off my board so bummed that as far as I can tell theres not a PSU that can handle that as well as my other pedals

I'm a big fan of both the helix FX offerings and honestly all the old legacy FX from the m series too

still have a few pedals that this won't be able to replace but hoping to at least be able to kick my compressor off the board.... my wah, EF, re202, rc500, and afterneath are all definitely sticking around. But I'm really mostly in it for the oddball/unique fx anyway lol

Not sure what power supply you're using, but several make adapter cables for the HX stuff.

Curious why you didn't go with the HXFX? No amp modeling but a few more footswitches and has 1/4" relay switching capabilities.

Anyway, try the H90 before your return window closes on the HX stuff. It blew the L6 stuff out of the water, especially for delays/reverbs/modulation/pitch shifting stuff.
