I heard some people say the Power Station colors the tone so I did a quick test.
I set the PS for "unity gain" (no volume boost or cut) and took it in/out of the signal chain via the Standby switch (the PS connects the amp straight into the cab when in Standby).
Pretty transparent, I think:

Unity volume is the key. Certain things are unavoidable.

Sounds great to me. Can't hear any difference.

I'm not in Andy sneaps mixing room and the guy who told you they color the tone wasn't either. I can't hear any extremely noticeable difference.
Would be the same amount of difference as using a different pick.

Love my PS2. I use it to power two 4X12's, for the effects loop, to tame the volume on amps, and as a power amp for a SYN-1. It's one of my all time favorite pieces of gear.
Re: Testing the "Transparency" of the Fryette Power Station
Yeah, pretty transparent. I'd say like 98% the same with it in vs out. Not even worth caring about at all. Guessing someone asked about this?
I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.

I will say that the stock Sovtek 6L6 and standard JJ ECC83S is kind of sterile or transparent (depending on your viewpoint). With the JJ 6L6GC and ECC803S I put in, the sound is much more preferable for how I run it, but might not be as preferable as an attenuator.

I don't know which is which... Sounds great here both ways.
