The SLOC is definitely a good one and it's one of my top 5 DE razors.
I was just really surprised to find out that my lower priced Merkur 180 was just as good, if not better than my more expensive razors.

Funny you mention Merkur. I looked on amazon at the Van der Hagen and someone said it's a clone of the Merkur Futur. Sure enough it is. Looks pretty damn similar for 1/4 the cost.

I started on a Van der Hagen but I think I'd probably spring for the Merkur to have an adjustable.

Yeah man! I found a Chinese clone of the Futur a few years ago, for $25.
It's a fun and interesting razor.... the whole top pulls up and off for changing blades, and it "sings" when you shave.
The blade and handle resonate and they amplify the sound of plowing down the stubble.
It's a bit bulky in size, IMHO, but it's still nice to have in the collection.

This morning, I HAD to break out the SLOC with a Feather Yellow... haven't used it in a long time. The SLOC -is- noticeably than the Merkur 180!!!!
The open comb is what gives the SLOC the "edge" (pun intended) over the Merkur. You can get a closer shave and you can get it more easily.

I just had an epiphany... For the last few days, I've been shaving with the SLOC and I now realize that it's my all time favorite DE razor.

My favorites by category:

OPEN COMB = RazoRock SLOC
SAFETY BAR = RazoRock Lupo and Merkkur 180 Classic Head (they're tied)
ADJUSTABLE = Rex Ambassador and Gillette Slim (favoring the Rex a bit)
STRAIGHT = Henckels Friodur 17 Stainless Steel

I finally ordered some Seaforth Spiced Lime soap and aftershave! Hopefully they get here this week!

Spiced Lime is the best!!!
I like the Spiced Lime Toner - it's not as potent as the aftershave, but the 10 people I gave bottles to, last Christmas, loved the aftershave!!!
$10 says it will be your favorite!!!

Well the soap arrived but they sent me the wrong toner. Gave me Heather instead of sea spice lime. The soap is right. So that’s good. I just emailed spearhead and I’ll see what they say.

EDIT: they’re shipping me a bottle of the spiced lime toner free. So cool. I’ll probably order some heather soap soon anyway. I dug the scent.
