DOD Overdrive Preamp 250

Post by jamminjohn »

Seems like there was some hullabaloo about these pedals a year ago, then it was gone.

Seems like they brought some good money. I modded mine to take adaptor power.

The pedal sounds thin to me. But, I guess it may have been a fad of some kind.

Anybody got one? Is yours battery only?

I had a reissue from the 00s. It had the old style power jack. I didn't like it as a distortion into a clean amp. I didn't think to stack it with other pedals or a dirty amp, which is what's it meant for. These days, I could work with it.

I don't get they gray speck hype. There are so few components that there is zero reason to pay a zillion bux for any version. Just mod a cheap one.

I think mine is an original yellow one. I thought it removed some bass too. I placed it after my FuzzFace (blue round one) because sometimes the FF got too bassy and woofy. I figured the 250 would lessen some of that woofy bass. But combined, I got like a Neil Young splatter that I thought was cool for single notes, but it was pretty muddy for chords. I'll have to try it out again. I used these pedals with a Strat through a Fender HRDx and an AC15 playing wannabe blues and rock.

Just got home from Guitar Center with it.

They could not date it(pre 78) because no info on battery only units.

Anyway, he offered me $300 and would sell it for $499.

I said Thanx, but, no thanx. I think I can do better.

Prices are are all over the place from Bay to Reverb. I saw one for $999 :cop:

I'll hang on to for now :snax:

It's one of the best boosts for lead tones with strat single coils

An old video I made with a stock strat, the Runt and a 250

That's exactly what I'm using in the video. Killer pedal!

I found mine! I guess mine's not as old. I was just playing it with my Tele into a Fender HRDx. Gives it some nice hair and touch-sensitivity at low gain settings. Gonna have to try it through the DSL one day.

Yeah I can see them being an acquired taste. They don't really sound good on their own. And even as a boost, they're picky about the amps and guitars they work with.

I only use it with strats and Marshall style amps. The Yngwie thing. That combination is awesome.

Other than that, I prefer a SD1 , TS or Kline most of the time.
