DSL!!!!
So one of my friends here lost his job recently and he's been having a bit of a hard time finding another. He has a JCM2000 DSL and he texted me today asking if I wanted to buy it because he needs the money.
I told him I couldn't buy it at the moment but if he wanted to, I'd trade my DSL100H and add some cash to help him out. So I gave him my amp and $400 and took his JCM2000. $400 is a bit more than the price difference between the 2 but I wanted to help him as much as I could.
Anyway, it's a 2001 model and it had the board upgraded to the revised version to address the bias issue. So it's a solid amp now.
We compared the 2 side by side and they pretty much sounded the same, although the gain pot on the 2000 has a lot more range. Both amps have the same amount of gain but the gain knob on the 100H picks up really fast while on the 2000 it is a lot more gradual.
So yeah, not really a NAD but I was happy that I could help my buddy out with some $ and he will still have a DSL to play
NAD!! Sort of...it's a...

I played a jcm2000 years ago at GC and remember kind of liking it. I didn’t realize these were also DSLs. Too many DSL versions LoLoL
I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.

The JCM2000 is the original DSL. From 1997 to 2009.
(there is also a 3 channel JCM2000 called TSL)
First reissue is the DSL100H (2013-2017).
DSL100HR is the current version.
The JCM2000 and the DSL100H are largely the same amp. The current version is a different amp and I don't like it.

Really? How is the HR different? It looks like it has more features in the back. What is it that you didn't like?Guitarbilly wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 4:58 am The JCM2000 is the original DSL. From 1997 to 2009.

I'm currently going through a honeymoon stage with my DSL100H and Les Paul: two things I thought I would never love, having always been a Fender-through-Fenders kinda guy.
Hats-off to you for your gesture to your friend.

They added a pair of global master volumes, which requires the whole preamp to be redesigned. The amp sounds thinner and brighter overall. You can EQ them all to sound somewhat similar depending on what you're going for but the older amps can sound considerably better.bonano wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 1:09 pmReally? I always wanted to try the DSL100H but if I’m being honest, my old JCM2000 DSL 100 was amazing. Red 2 with the gain low, mid shift off and deep in with a SD-1 was a beast.

Yeah that's the recipe with these amps. The 100H is cool because instead of the Deep switch you have an actual Resonance control to fine tune the low end, which makes a difference with some cabs.greatmutah wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 10:40 pm I always wanted to try the DSL100H but if I’m being honest, my old JCM2000 DSL 100 was amazing. But either amp will do. The 2000 looks better as Cliff pointed out. Better tolex and an actual metal panel. And even though I have nothing bad to say about the Vietnamese build quality ( quite the contrary, its excellent) it's cool to have a made in UK Marshall anyway

Yeah I never heard anything bad about the build quality of the Vietnam amps. But the headshell and cosmetics of a proper UK built Marshall are a different level. The Vietnam amps don’t look bad by any means. But a UK Marshall looks fucking proper.
