clean tone - Sultans of Swing

Post by dstroud »

I was shocked how “stratty” my EC-256 got on split coil mode. The bang for the buck on this guitar keeps getting better! I used my Blankenship custom 2 channel 18 watter and marshall 1960 cab, straight in, compressed on post

Sounds great! Every time that I hear that tune it reminds me that I wanted to learn pieces of that solo.

Not entirely surprising ampwise because Mark’s actual amp was a Brown Vibrolux. The Brown circuits are a little less bright and clean than the later Blackface and Silverface circuits.
Not as raw as a Tweed but not as clean as a BF. A little closer to what Marshall would do.

The surprise is that guitar though for sure. Sounds awesome. Some pickups do split tones really well.
More guitars than anyone could need

thanks, I didn’t know what amp he used, but I was surprised I got this close with this guitar!
