Friedman Vintage line

Post by Guitarbilly »

He posted this on Facebook today.

It's supposed to be a copy of his '68 50w plexi.

I’m watching for them to release specs and a demo. I’m curious if the second input jack is a “Low” input or if it’s for a footswitch

It's a low input. There are no footswitchable channels. they're internally jumpered. No effects loop either.

is he going to sell those? That thing looks awesome! I imagine, if he makes it available that it'll be quite pricey!

George Metropoulos mentioned these launched. He agot to play Dave’s actual 50 watt amp and he said it’s awesome so these should be good. I hope they are. I like Dave’s stuff. My only complain is that they can sometimes sound a bit too polite compared to the actual Marshalls they’re based off of. Hopefully this one is a bit more raw.

Looks awesome. No effects loop i get is staying with vintage theme but would greatly limit the chances i'd use that amp live. If id did use it live i'd probably set the amp fairly clean and use pedals for drive which i'm sure would work out great but would be a shame to not be utilizing the built in ability to have really killer driven tones.

If the lack of loop is an issue:

https://store.metropoulos.net/products/ ... 5946475593

Follow his shop on Facebook if you’re interested. Every time they ship out a few more amps they open up orders.

George solved that problem of the loop with a master. He uses an opto isolator master volume and his own emulation circuit to simulate the plexi power amp being pushed while keeping the actual amp power amp clean. I haven’t had a chance to play one yet but everyone I’ve talked to that has loves it. YMMV.

I find it funny how much money people can make producing an old school Marshall... yet Marshall themselves can't seem to figure that out.

Marshall makes some good ones. The 1987x is truly excellent. So is the 2203x, Jubilee Reissue etc The 20w heads are cool too
They're just ridiculously overpriced in the USA. In the EU you can buy a 2203x for 1500EUR. It's a shame it's more than double here.

Marshall has a pricing problem but their amps are cool.
