6505 1992 Half Stack First Clips

Post by nightflameauto »

Spent a couple hours dicking around with the new amp. Not sure I love what's happening with the old standby V yet. May be time for another pickup swap. Or something. Any rate, here's a couple clips of the V:

No Drums
This one's six takes, 57 up front, 906 behind the cab to grab some thump. Fender bass down the middle.

Fuckery w/ Drums
I think this one's 5 takes? Middle and then two guitars doing each of the other parts. Fender bass down the middle again.

Dunno. Sorta OK, but a little crispy for my tastes. May have to get out a different guitar and try again.

This, however? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! Makes me wanna bust out my best Joey impression.

6505 Alive
This is the Schecter C something er other who cares with the burl top I bought during my hiatus from having a home. Drop C# tune. Six takes, bass is the most atrocious piece of shit I currently own, a Glarry. But it seems to work here.

All bass takes are through the Dark Glass combo.

That last clip makes me think I need to write a few in that tuning. God damn.

Mixing is pretty much fuck it, sounds good on my monitors for now. :cop: :nono:

Yeah, sounds good! The 6505 is definitely pretty crispy and aggressive. Sounds like that to me. Not too crispy.

Last one is Marilyn Manson vibes.

2nd one agreed, crispy.

1st with no drums gives me Anthrax vibes. Dig it man.

This amp kicks ass and people forget about it chasing tone.

It's funny that this amp is called the "1992" and this clip transported me right back to '92

(This is a compliment btw. The amp is truly the sound of an era. And you captured it really well).

Sounds like a proper OG 5150/6505 to me. Machine Head Burn my eyes album I believe was all 5150. Such underrated amps. Killer tones and riffs!

Thanks, man. I'm thinking the mis-match between "in the room" and "from the mic" is eating at me. I'm sure I'll get better at micing it up with some practice.

The first is the last. :cop: The last one is actually an Anthrax tune. The first is a Testament tune.

Apologies to both Charlie and Scott for fucking up the drums and the guitar riff.

Thanks, man. It definitely has "that" tone. Reminds me so much of my old block letter when sitting in front of it.

:hmm: Come to think of it, that opening on I'm Alive really does have a "Beautiful People" thing going on. Damn it, Anthrax!

If I remember right, Robb's "that" block letter was modded to allow a much more scooped sound than most 5150s, but I like the comparison. Thanks for the listens fellas.

More, because fuck the rest of the world this weekend, guitar comes first.

First, one side is the red channel, gain up, other side is rhythm channel, boosted with a Keeley Mod SD-1

Probably too much bass, but fuck it.

Second, a tone I like to practice with on it since you ain't hiding shit with it. Just straight in, green, gain rolled way back. I actually kinda dig how this sounds. It's piled up a bit, 5 takes per side. Drums are a whatever I threw together in like ten minutes just to hear something.

You don't really hear a lot of lower gain 5150/6505 clips around, so I thought it was worth sharing..

I'm putting together a plan to do that and actually practicing often enough again to feel like I'm capable of it. :cop:
