NPsD

Post by greatmutah »

I got these within a day of each other but only because o only ordered one earlier and one later on the same day. Just some fun things:

EQD Hummingbird Tremolo

Catalinbread Katzenkönig Distortion

So the EQD is supposed to be based off a Vox/Valco style trem. Has a bit more throb and chop than what’s on my Fender but I think it’ll be a cool effect to have for my band for some songs. It has 3 modes for 3 different ranges of speed from super slow to stupidly fast. I’m probably gonna live in the middle mode as that seems the most useful to me.

The Catalinbread is a neat one. The front end is based off a Tone Bender Mk II to with the gain and transistors. The back end is based off a Rat’s clipping and filter section. It sounds and feels like a better Rat. It’s not as tight as most Rats but still tight. The input control is kind of like an impedance adjuster. You can adjust it low or high to handle different pickups if it’s first in the chain or adjust it to match your pedals. Really useful. Gain controls distortion and cranking them can get fuzzy. Filter control works like Rat. Counter clockwise for more treble clockwise for less but the sweep feels more useful to me. Can get gnarly and fuzzy with the gain cranked.

A fun couple of pedals I grabbed during Memorial Day sales.

Very nice. The Hummingbird is great. I remember hearing the Katzenkönig was supposedly noisy. Any issues with it in that department for you?

And not to hijack but it looks like you’re still digging on the Zoar? I had been thinking about snagging one at some point. They can be had relatively cheap and the clips I’ve heard all sound real good.

I love my Zoar. It’s got a really cool low mid grind thing going on and it cleans up nicely with your guitar volume. Even with gain maxed it doesn’t get super high gain but can be boosted very well. The weight control is cool. It adds some fuzziness to the bottom end the higher it’s turned. Treble up to 12 o clock is normal but after that it really thins out the other frequencies so it’s best to use it sparingly past noon. Someone described it as a Bassman meets an old Orange OR120 and I agree. It’s got that kind of tone and quality to it.

For the Katzenkönig and noise, I haven’t had much of an issue at all unless I’m cranking the bejeesus out of the gain and input.

Dude it sounds awesome. I love this thing. Cranked or set lower. It doesn’t really clean up so much as go from rock to RAWK. It reacts well to my Super Phat Mod as a boost especially in Phat mode. And if I want to stack my Octapussy in front when the gain on both is set lower, I get some awesome Octave fuzz tones. Just epic. Need to bust out my EQD Grim Reefer and Dirt Transmitter and try those in front too.
