What's the most transparent "affordable" multi-fx?

To use in the loop of an amp? Could be a modeler too, as long as I can turn the modeling off.
I want something to put in the loop of the IR-D for modulation, delay, EQ, gate.... no drives or amp modeling.
No 4cm, just in the loop.
The main criteria for me is to have something the doesn't mess with the preamp tone, this is just for live use so I don't need stellar effects, but the preamp tone has to remain intact.
I'm thinking something like the HX Stomp or Ampero... something along those lines.

Plethora x3 or x5 is what I would go for.

I was looking at those but I'm confused about how it works. Can you create presets with it? Different settings/effects combinations and switch presets on the fly?
It seems like you can only create custom boards and turn the effects on/off as individual pedals....

Boss GT-1000 Core, perhaps?

you might check out the Zoom MS505 multistomp. In bypass I don’t notice any tone differences.

Boss gear is not transparent unfortunately.
I can make it work through an amp and cab where I don' hear it much, or at least to a point where it doesn't bother me.
But DI really exposes this type of thing and the Boss stuff when used direct, adds a midrange honk that I can't dial out. Its a shame, because the GT Core or even the MS-3 would be the perfect format for this rig.

Yeah if it had MIDI that would be ideal. I love the size too. But it's not very practical for live use. I don't know why companies make this kind of stuff without MIDI jacks.

Does the GT1000 core have the tone optimization setting like the full GT1000? I have the full size GT1000 and you can select if you're going into 1x12, 2x12 combo, 4x12 or solid state. It seems transparent to me once I pick the correct setting for whichever amp I play through. Although I do 4cm so that might be why it works for me?

Yeah if you're going through a cab, Boss is fine. I've used a lot of their gear over the years. But DI with them is a problem...

Yeah, actually I also have the Boss GT1, and it actually sounds better direct than the GT1000. And I even tried Celestion IR's in the GT1000. I just assumed you gave up on going direct with digital.

I'm not really going direct with digital, I'm using the Friedman IR-D to go direct, which is a tube preamp.
I just need something for the effects. At the moment, I'm just using my regular pedals for effects but it would be nice to have an all-in-one fx unit.
