After a bit of Dry spell, wrote a new song

Post by Endtime »

I know this isn't *quite the forum for the stuff Write, but been around long enough so you know what its mostly about. Altho, this is slightly different than usual perhaps.. maybe a little less dissonance and actual keys being used.. I think.. Lol.. I know enough to know I could actually figure out the main riffs and what key its in.. Some of the fastest drumming Ive ever used.. I usually steer away from too crazy of speeds, but it fit.. Aint no rules.. Its *fake so why limit it?! Since its just done, of course no vocals.. I do plan to add a solo after the middle break. From 3;23-3;51. Gonna ask a buddy of mine if he wants to take a crack at it.. Aint his style at all, but he's a wizard player and since it is mostly in a key he might have a decent shot at doing sumthin cool..

Standard recordin and gear shit.. My new MAIN cab with the 16 Celestion EVH. SM57. Into My CAPI vp28 Preamp. And the 5153 el34 100 watt straight into the Blue channel.. I tucked a 3rd track of the red channel up the middle to add a touch more overall gain but its mainly the blue.. Also Tuned down to my old standard of D flat.. Its funny I tuned up to E flat again for the last idk, 5 years.. And that felt good.. and every time Id go back to D flat, I just felt off.. But doing that Hate Eternal cover which was also in D flat sorta sparked the right feel again for this tuning.. I wrote all my old World of Shit stuff I D flat or B flat on the 7.. So suppose its a return to the roots!

Like I said, limited audience here. BUT, I got a buddy to guest solo on this. I actually CAN play this sort of way and was working on some ideas, when I said, I know this dude can kinda nail the vibe I want without much effort. And being an old friend, he did it within the hour. So you got that to look forward to! Hah

Cool song man!!!! I like that there are so many different "moods" within the same song. Very solid writing.
Your friend's solo was cool, bit of a Marty Friedman vibe on his phrasing.

Thanks for checking it out. It’s one of the few songs where *most of the parts are actually written in a key. Give or take a note. Lol. But the solo section was so I said, yknow I want to do something a little more melodic and not just chaos. I really can play this way. Lol. Especially since the guy who played it was actually my old guitar teacher when I was 12-14 or 15. I forget when I quit but he taught me a lot. I learned and improved a TON in those 2-3 years. Very theory driven style and I could do all this sort of modal playing and I was a the “sweep king” for awhile there. Cause he was! Haha. But it’s cool we’ve actually stayed in contact all these years. He was only like 17/18 when I started with him. So not a huge age difference. And as I was working out my lead for this, we had always said we need to do sumthin together and he’s not a death metal guy by any stretch but he claims to love my music and takes pride in what I do. So anyway blabbering as usual, I said “I’m working on a solo I KNOW you could knock out”. And literally an hour after he got home from work he sent it over. That was honestly the best part. That he legit WANTED to get on it and I think it works out totally for what I was attempting anyway

Sounds killer dude!!

I could be totally off bass but I kind of got the vibes of old school at the gates but more modern and through the lens of more straight up DM vs melodic Gothenburg sound.

Ithinkthats fair. We hear what we hear! Ad while I don't love At the Gates, they were one of the First Death metal bands I got into in 1992 with the Red in the Sky is ours.. By far the more death metal release they did.. Their next albums would start to dial in THEIR sound.. While I liked it, I sorta stopped listening.. Altho in 1996, I saw what still stands as my favorite show of all time.. Dissectio, which apparently was their only US tour.. So I guess we saw HISTORY!! haha.. then At the Gates, followed By Morbid Angel.. At a small club that prolly capped at 200, but easily 300-400 were stacked in there and it was total chaos.. I actually found some video from the At the Gates set a few years ago, and my memory didn't deceive me.. You just see a place that is a swarming mass.. It was an amazing night. Fuck it Ill find it ad post it!! haha

what's great is this felt like it was EVERY "big" show.. Ad it got even crazier for Morbid..

Thats dude. The last few have been pretty much back to WoS style.. Maybe the only difference and it matters is its back down in D flat...

thanks Brutha!!

and because always got to record a 2nd amp, while I actually loved how the initial version with the 5153 blu channel turned out, Thats was basically the tone and recording I did while writing the song.. So it was never meant to be final, but it sorta felt like it could be.
