While looking through my tubes I found I have (2) 12AT7 preamp tubes. One is a Groove Tube gold and the other is a NOS RCA. That's when I remembered I bought these to use in the V1 slot of my old Soldano Hot Rod 50+ I owned 18 years ago. It's supposed to tame the crunch/normal channel and it give a bit of a more vintage sound. Worked great in my Soldano and damn if it doesn't do the same thing for the Jet City. I mean, the 50H is basically the same circuit as the Hot Rod 50+, so duh.
I used the Groove Tube 12AT7 and it did a great job taming down the crunch channel. Smoothed it out a bit, lowered the gain, and gave it more of a vintage Marshall feel and tone. It affected the OD channel a bit, but it's not nearly as noticeable. I think this is going to stay in that slot from now on
