strat setup question (preference?)
should the bridge be slightly floating on a strat setup in your opionion? Picked up a used one been a long time since I have had one but i was surprised that the bridge is not just a tiny bit floating. Ive always prefered it up off the body about 1-2mm.
Re: strat setup question (preference?)
Yes, because I want the way it sounds versus blocked/decked. It's more of the classic Strat sound to me.

Re: strat setup question (preference?)
Of my Strats with vintage trems, I have one set to float and the other decked. I like both.

Re: strat setup question (preference?)
This is the first 2 post strat I have ever had it that makes a difference every other strat was vintage 6 screw.
Re: strat setup question (preference?)
I set up countless Strats, and it’s honestly about 50/50 on peoples preference. A “proper” Strat should pull up about a half step of going by the design.

My strats are all decked. Even my Floyd guitars are set for dive only. I have no use for a floating trem.

I like the sound of floating trems better.
I dislike strat trems both ways though.

Re: strat setup question (preference?)
I deck or set all my tremolos to dive only, except for the muttgang guitar I built about 10 years back that has a deusenberg les trem on it. There is no dive-only option for it that I am aware of. I play them live and string breaks happen and a dive only guitar is more tuning stable to finish the song.

I couldn’t stand them either. But after working on 100s, I started to come around to it. In fact I think bent steel saddles really do increase “harmonic content” more than any other saddle. But these trems have that ridiculous flaw of the saddle height screws usually sit up above the saddle and are a cheese grater. If I really want to dial it in for someone , for a small charge I grind down every screw so they fit flush. That makes a big difference straight away for most.broslinger wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 3:00 am I like the sound of floating trems better.

Anyway, I learned to appreciate a Strat trem after thinking they were the biggest POS out there.

Fwiw, the cheesiness of fender hardware is why it sounds so good. It’s why a $20 ashtray tele bridge sounds better than fancy milled solid brass/steel $100-$200 tele bridge.
So, I don’t hate the general shittiness of the strat trem, i hate the stiff action and how the bar feels.
I’m really falling in love with the jazzmaster trem lately, quirks and all.
