Midi sucks: DD-500, SDE-3000D, GT-1000 Core

Trying to get the Morningstar MC8 to do anything other than piss me off, but the DD-500 and SDE-3000D suck majorly for midi implementation. Absolutely abysmal. I can't get the MC8 to do anything at all with those in the chain; only direct to the GT-1000 Core. Even just attempting to turn on/off DDL 1 on the SDE-3000D doesn't work. I don't know what jerk off at Boss decided they should make something simple like turning on/off DDL1/DDL2 and Delay A/B on the SDE-3000D and DD-500 a chore was a good idea, but screw them. I seriously hate programming midi, regardless of how "great looking" these companies make their midi controller editors. It is always such a fucking chore.
"Remember not to set the assign CCs on the GT-1000 Core to toggle or it won't work." Really? Setting it to toggle is the only way I can get it to work.
Using Boss cables to attempt to daisy chain Boss products to change via midi and it is still a pain in the ass.
Fuck midi.

I've never once set up midi without some amount of bullshit. I really hate it with a passion. One device? Cool. Multiple devices? Bullshit junction.

Well, seems like the Morningstar is DOA, even though it turns on, the USB and footswitches work, but sending messages does not seem to happen at all, regardless of the cable I use, regardless of what product I set it up to (ie, to simplify things). I do not recommend Morningstar products to anyone, and now not only do I need a midi solution that isn't garbage for one board, but for the other as well, because I have zero confidence this thing won't at some point just randomly go south.

well that sucks.... have you checked the debugging page on the Morningstar app to confirm that no messages are being sent and if messages are being sent that it's the right messages to the right channel?
my MC3 be been pretty much bulletproof for the last year and the only issues I had with it were configuration errors on my part

*shrugs* It is going back. It shouldn't be dead from the first boot up, which leads me to believe they are cheaply made, despite how they look on the outside.

Yeah I was going to suggest that the issue was with the controller. The SDE3000 is a bit of a pain to program, but it receives MIDI messages (PC and CC) without issues. The DD500 is pretty straight forward.

Thankfully, the company I ordered it from on Reverb is responsive and offering a refund or a replacement. We'll see how this goes. That said, I still find midi in general to be an issue. It is relatively simple, but never actually works as expected and always requires troubleshooting. Since getting a job in the tech support field, my interest in troubleshooting anything is nearly 0 and probably below it on certain days.

It isn't working with the GT-1000 Core, which is the unit I've had the most experience with in terms of using another product (ES-8, MS-3, MC8) to change things with midi PC/CC messages. So no, I did not.
Since I've eliminated the midi cable I thought might be an issue, it is the unit itself. No debugging app needed.
