I usually don't like BlackStar but they've been coming out with some cool signature amps lately. I tried the JJN50 the other day and liked it quite a bit.
This one seems cool too:

Definitely has a lot of options and sounds pretty damn good too.

Too bad the build quality will be pretty on par with a lot of their other amps.

We don't know that yet. Too early to say. I've seen companies change build quality in both directions.

Possibly, but they've been at it for quite some time and don't have a build quality worth raving about.

I guess for $1400, it'll be a solid amp but probably nothing exceptional. Glad to see they're not using the solid state preamp like their Stage series amps.

How much SMT/SMD do you fathom could be on the boards? Do think build quality will be much different?

Build quality should be similar to your standard production amp these days, EVH, DSL, Fender Hot Rod etc, which is not stellar but enough to keep the amps working.
I don't think Aldrich would sign off on a POS.
Blackstar can make decent amps when they want to. The Artisan and Series One amps are well built.

I see. The use of SMT/SMD in amps is a tad unsettling. Hopefully it is more like the Series One in build quality and less like the HT series.

SMD on itself doesn't worry me much. It depends on the quality of the board, components, design etc....
