NAD!!!
Re: NAD!!!
That’s awesome man, not surprised it suits your stuff. And the Mesa tower is badass.

Re: NAD!!!
Thanks dude!!
Popped some 6L6s in today and I’m enjoying the results. Improved cleans and brought high gain tones into a bit more familiar territory for me. Perhaps mid gain and crunch type sounds suffer a bit but I hardly use that kind of in between stuff lol. Sounds great with either tube type though
Have a Mesa vertical diagonal 2x12 coming whenever they’re off backorder. Looking forward to hearing how it sounds with V30s (all my amps for that matter, been ages since I’ve used v30s)

Re: NAD!!!
Awesome. I haven't tried a Badlander myself, but every clip I've heard is pretty rockin'.
Ported cabs, especially Thieles, are really weird with certain gain structures. I know my ported Mesa cab takes some weird tweaking at mid to low volumes to sound right, and at higher volumes you have to back way off the gain to keep it from having that "way too thick to fit in the mix" vibe you're describing above. And sometimes the difference between "too thick" and "sounds empty" is .000001 radial degree on the dial.

Interestingly enough, I think it sounds better through my widebody 1x12, which is also ported, but could just boil down to the speaker.
I think this week I'm taking my evh quarter stack to my drummers and bringing the thiele home for a bit to have all my mesa gear at home to do some testing.. and even better combining the widebody and thiele together with my marks and such

Re: NAD!!!
Those vert diagonal 212s got my interest, for sure. I have a KSR 212HW, which is diagonal, but horizontal. Its an awesome cab, and super light, but still sounds big. Really similar dimensions to the Mesa, too. I bought the KSR late last year, and the Mesa was released like 2 months later lol.
Re: NAD!!!
The best Vert 2x12 I’ve played is the Orange(no idea the model name/numbers) with Neo Creambacks… First , I think those speakers are a real sleeper for metal, and 2nd I compared this against the Mesa vert at the shop. 2 different planets. I don’t think you’d like how small and boxy the mess 2x12 is by comparisonninjaraf wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 4:43 pm Those vert diagonal 212s got my interest, for sure. Re: NAD!!!
Also congrats On the amp. I got along with Crunch channel gain dimed. Found no reason to boost it and the tone doesn’t mush out with the gain on “10”, it just sounds great. Definitely half Marshall(more in the feel maybe, and half Mesa to me
Re: NAD!!!
Is that the diagonal 212, or the regular vertical 212? Mesa regular 212s are kind of on the smaller size, but the diagonal 212 is a bit bigger.Endtime wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 2:32 pmThe best Vert 2x12 I’ve played is the Orange(no idea the model name/numbers) with Neo Creambacks… First , I think those speakers are a real sleeper for metal, and 2nd I compared this against the Mesa vert at the shop. 2 different planets. Re: NAD!!!
Diagonal.. The Orange was way bigger. But… it didn’t have casters and I know that affects things but it still was a stark contrast

Re: NAD!!!
Thanks! Totally agree on diming the gain on crunch, hell even diming the gain on crush still sounds good imo
In regards to those cabs, dimensions I'm seeing online show the Orange being about an inch taller than the mesa vertical diagonal, but the mesa being an inch wider and 3 inches deeper??
It's been a long time since I've used V30s, had them in a mesa trad 4x12 (I actually liked the tone of the smaller dimension Trad than the OS back then) but its been years now. Curious as to what I'll think of them now when I get this cab. Recently in my IR endeavors I've not really liked V30 IRs whatsoever so curious to see how that will reflect in real life. But I know I did like them before
Was already thinking of potentially swapping out for either one creamback, two creambacks, or a creamback and a redback lol. But all TBD. I just put a creamback in my vintage deluxe reverb and it was a huge improvement over the jensen that was in there. Obviously that's not metal tones with that amp but I really like the speaker haha
