First time micing this amp. I was messing around with 2 57s and the PR30, and was having a hard time finding a position the PR30 felt good in, so I just went with the 2 57 using my Fredman mic clip. Strat with Black Winter, Mesa cab, micing a V30. Pretty happy with this, but comparing to my EVH clips, those are significantly better, so I will keep working at this over time and finding where this amp sounds best.

Just for reference, here is the EVH with 57 on the V30 and PR30 on the Redback that I did back in Dec.

EDIT:
Here's one of the Engl with the 57 and PR30.

Re: Fireball clip
Fuck yeah, that is THE Engl metal tone. The 5150 sounds great too but way more bloated in the lower mids, where as the Engl has that perfect scooped yet cutting through tone. I slightly prefer the original Engl clip to the second. Still, splitting hairs as most non guitar players would shit themselves to any of these tones.

Re: Fireball clip
I like the tone but after listening to the EVH clip, the EVH definitely has more aggression. The tone itself is not that different but the EVH sounds more immediate and angrier for the lack of a better term.
Re: Fireball clip
The EVH has a lot more of that upper mid bite. It's also tighter, and the low end responds faster than the Engl. I like the Engl, but I don't see this tone here being a main recording tone. That EVH clip is basically my ideal recorded tone.
I disagree about the EVH sounding more bloated in the lower mids. I think the Engl sounds significantly more bloated in that region.
But like Bill said, the tones aren't THAT different.
The FB25 is easier to record than the 100, so far. I used the 25 as a middle lower in the mix track on the last song my band released, but that song was mostly Mark VII. Next one will be mostly EVH with some FB25 up the center and lower in the mix. The low end is a lot leaner on the 25.

Re: Fireball clip
Both sound excellent, but I also give the edge to the 5153
I don't think either sound bloated but I feel like I hear more low mids in the 5153 than I do in the fireball. But maybe that's just low end in general

Re: Fireball clip
I think the EVH just has a bit more of everything, but it's absolutely tighter and less bloated sounding to me in this instance. I'm sure I can get the Engl to do it's thing without that, but I've also basically spent about 3 years with the EVH and about a week with the Fireball haha. I think the low mids on the 5150 are exactly what I am after, too, so that for sure biases my thoughts lol. It's so fucking metal sounding! I love it haha. They're big, but still tight and focused. The Engls seem a little looser and fuzzier with some fatness that the EVH doesn't have.
I appreciate the comments! And I agree, they both sound great to me. Just different, and the differences are pretty accurate in terms of comparison to what I hear in the room. I just think the Engl is capable of sounding better than it does here. Will get there!

They all sound great, I like the EVH best too... But it seems like the two would really compliment each other in a mix.

Re: Fireball clip
Gotta echo everyone else here and go with the 5153. That sounds really really fucking great for your style. Nothing bad about the Engl but it sounded more stuffy and tubby while the 5153 sits perfectly in the mix.
Great job on this one

not sure i like one more than the other, i think mixed might work, maybe the engl L/R and the 5153 in the center
