Welp, there it is!! lolol
I used the EXTREME MODE lolol...so fucking dumb, but whatever. I honestly think it's the best sounding mode on the amp for modern metal tones. I was using Mark IV mode with the other clips.
Strat, Mark V, loop is ON...Mesa Standard 412. SM57 on a V30, Lewitt condenser on a Redback into my RME Fireface. No EQ on the guitars.

Sounds great! You should do one in Mark IV mode for comparison. Alao curious your thoughts on this vs Mark VII and JP2C. I really think your playing shines and has better clarity with the Mark amps.

Thank you! I do love the markseses.
I should’ve done that. But the EQ settings have to be dialed for each mode and I didn’t wanna fuck with it after landing on this because I was having a blast playing it. Reminded me why I love marks.
Hmmmm…they’re all kinda similar but also very different. For years the IV has been my favorite but I revisited that recently and it was what I remember.
The JP always seemed boxy to me. There’s something in the mids that you can’t get rid of that I didn’t like. But goddamn is it great, still!! I think it has the best layout and functionality. 2 EQs, shred mode, and none of these 3 modes per channel shenanigans. Something about that really appeals to me. I liked that amp so much I’ve owned 3, and may get another eventually. The last one had some noise issues and I returned it. The tone is also pretty specific to Petruccis tastes. It does more than that, for sure, but if they made ch3 mark iv instead of both channels being basically the same, that amp would be perfect.
The VII is amazing. Has more gain than any other mark. Like on 5 it’s as much gain as this clip, which was almost maxed lol. More low end than the JP or V, too. And it’s brighter. Has this more modern sheen to it. Maybe a little more compressed, too. Overall, I liked the VII and JP about equal. Maybe a slight edge to the VII on tone and flexibility, and a slight edge to the JP on functionality and simplicity.
If you were deciding between the JP and VII, I’d say decide based on the functionality. They sound pretty similar overall, though the JP can’t do everything the VII does.
Oh yeah, the VII has the updated cab clone and a built in load. They should add that stuff to the JP, too. Super useful. I used the cab clone on every show I played the VII to feed my drummers IEM and it was just awesome for that. You can load your own IRs.

This kicks ass. The riffin' you're ending on reminds me so much of stuff off of Forbidden's Twisted to Form album. Which is awesome.
That tone slays.
