Issue with my Schecter?

My question first: For some reason the smallest key on my set is too large to fit the saddle adjustment screws. I need to raise a couple saddles up for a proper setup and I can't, What size do you think I need? Any recommendations on a set to buy? I've had the same alan set for the last 20 years and never had an issue until now.


Now onto my thoughts of this guitar after putting my trusty EXL115 on it. Installed a black winter in the bridge, I will install the neck on my next string change and if I decide to keep the guitar.

Maybe a dumb issue here but I've never experienced this before on a guitar. Usually it's an immediate yes or no for me when it comes to a neck. Im not even sure if I can explain this right lol.

First let me say the guitar is awesome. I got it mostly setup how I like other than needing to raise a couple saddles slightly.

It plays and sounds great, easy to chord, very fast....SS frets are cool.....super awesome guitar but for some reason the way the neck is carved doesn't roll off enough for me on the edges. It's kind of a big U shape I suppose and the edge hurts my finger a bit when I'm riffing in the lower registry.

Maybe I can adjust to it, ive already started to adjust to the saddle screws that I was complaining about in my other thread so who knows but it's bugging me....This one tiny little thing preventing me from absolutely loving this guitar. I took a picture of where it keeps rubbing against my finger. Maybe I'm just lazy and need to adjust my positioning but I'm very much past the callused and sore finger stage of guitar playing.

Idk man, that would be enough reason for me to get rid of the guitar. I can deal with things that are easily replaceable, but if the neck doesn't fit my hand, gone.

I'm with Billy on this one. If the neck doesn't fit my hand it is not the guitar for me.

Yep. You gotta find your preferred neck profiles! I had an SG special that sounded awesome, but the neck was frigging huge. It wouldn't hold tune for shit either. Traded it for a '78 superbass, which I'll chalk up as a win.

Yeah it's unfortunate.

The problem is I am extremely picky with necks. I highly regret selling my 2005 Charvel and I will probably never find one again. If I do the price wouldn't warrant buying it again.

It sucks because otherwise the guitar is perfect. I have a cheap Squier Root Tele and that neck is great but the rest of the guitar is meh. This Schecter sounds much better. Plays so much tighter and I like everything else about it.

I want to give it a chance. I really need to adjust the saddles and get it set up 100% before I can decide. I'm sure saddle adjustments wont change the neck but idk, if I turn my hand slightly more towards my body the issue isn't there, it's only when I'm resting the bottom of my fingers on the edge of the neck which I've never noticed that I did so much until now.

I just played it for 10 min and my finger feels raw so yeah I'll probably end up selling, I just don't want to.

The other option is to have the fretboard edges "rolled". Most luthiers and techs could handle that and if you are feeling adventurous, there are videos on the internet of how to do it.

I had a Sterling JP100D that had a similar issue. The edges were just very squared off. Rolling the edges fixed the issue and made the guitar much more comfortable to play. That was about 11 years back, but I think it only cost me about $30 to have it done. Thats probably $100 now.

I had a Schecter Super Shredder Exotic Hardtail - Black Limba that I bought new from Sweetwater a few years ago. The frets and fretboard were awesome and the wenge neck was smooth as silk! After about 10 minutes of playing it my first finger would cramp up by the nut. Everything else about it was pretty great but I like a bit wider nut width.

Yep, that's the only spot right by the nut.

Started doing some research after the suggestion made by @Heath. I really like the idea of having the edges rolled however I started getting scared, what if the luthier sucks? The width is already very small, etc.

Then I noticed that maybe the issue isn't the neck at all but the Frets? I can change strings, intonation, set up a Floyd like a boss and wire pickups in an already wired guitar by simply remembering what wire was where but that's about as far as it goes. I don't even like adjusting my own neck TBH so when it comes to fretwork, neck work. Etc etc I know nothing.

Anyway. I'm starting to think maybe it's the frets themselves. They do not stick out past the neck at all however.....when I run my fingers down the sides I can definitely feel them way more than the other guitars I have here.

Maybe I should have the Lutheier look at it but I'm wondering is that fixable?

If you can feel the frets when running up and down the neck, it's getting some sprout. I had the same thing this winter with a couple of my older beaters. I'd play them and have a beat up pointer on the fret hand by the time I was done.

I've used that on my old beater guitars during the dry months. Just don't press hard, slide it slowly and gently up and down the neck, then you have to refile the fret ends and polish them again.

If you don't feel up to it, luthier.
