Orange gain baby

Randomly came across this video, not going to buy one but kind of impressed with this being a solid state.

I haven't tried this one but the Super Crush was very good. I'm happy to see them carrying the torch of good solid state amps. It seems like a lost art these days.

It's dumb that there aren't more options for quality solid state amps. It shouldn't be hard to do. The info is all out there and a lot of the key patents have expired! Ampeg had a patent on the op amp configuration found in the vh140/150 and ss150, and they were allegedly quite aggressive in going after anyone who had anything even remotely similar which probably didn't help. That expired in 2009 however. Ampeg could literally do the bare minimum and reissue those amps without doing a damn thing and they'd sell like hot cakes as they go for stupid money used now. If they were smart they'd miniaturize it and slap a 300W class D power amp in and laugh all the way to the bank.

I have a massive amount of respect for the Orange solid-state amps. Having caught Kings X twice in the last few years I can attest that the Super Crush 100 head sounds massive, tube-like, and very dynamic to volume knob settings. Ty used the Super Crush into two Orange 4x12's with a Line 6 HX effects in 4cm, and that was it and both his Les Paul and Strat tones were spectacular. I am sure his blessed fingers have a ton to do with that and he could probably plug directly into a block of moldy cheese and sound great, but the amp was no slouch.

These amps have me excited to try one out.
