I'm heavily leaning toward buying the Tonex Max software on its own. It's on sale for $99 and should be all I need to record at home. But am I missing out if I don't buy one of the pedals? had a XXX head a while back ... should have kept it. i had EL34's in it. the renames are XXX -> 3120, and JSX -> XXX II XXX/3120 have active EQ, and it can be really touchy and not like a standard amp to dial in. controls at noon are "0" ... left is cut, right is boost the loop can be used...

another option is a Peavey Vypyr VIP1 ... i have one hidden in a corner on the side of a couch. i set it to the 6534 and haven't touched any settings in years.

i probably play my Hotone Pulze more than i play my EVH and Randall V2. its $419 (i got it for $380 new ... cheaper used ones showing up now), but it does have some great high gain tones, and doubles as a Bluetooth speaker. using an old Android tablet i had sitting in a drawer for the app/interface....
