For Floyd guys, finally! A proper option…

For the Nut radius. I’m not sure actually how NEW this is. But that old Wolfgang PV neck that completed my best WG “build” had the old original nut on there. Which I do believe WAS a custom radiused nut. Back in the day PV used Ping to build their trems. Which the Actual trem was a fairly decent version. I still have the OG Peavey Floyd on another WG and it honestly is as good as one could want. But the nut was clearly a softer metal as mine had grooves in the metal and I was having issues with buzzing from it. And they were R2 width which a standard Floyd R2 is 10 inch radius. While that old PV wolf neck is a flatter 15. Floyd actually sells a 15 radius, the R 10, but that wouldn’t work in the narrow nut width. So Schaller offers radiused Floyd nuts. Not ANY radius. But basically 8,10,12,14,16.. And as far as I found so far, have to go thru Schaller Germany.. but I ordered a couple 14 radius, the 2nd for my other HP special which also has that flatter radius and within a week shit came to my door. Shipping was reasonable, like $15…

I really don’t imagine many will find this a “cool” thing but I always HATED on my flatter 16 inch necks an R3 or R4 (which is typically the width) had a 12 inch radius and I could see how the D and G had that higher action.. And the r10 while it’s a solution, has wider spacing and I didn’t love that either. Now , literally for the first time you can get exactly what you want/need on any Floyd.

Yeah, you have to go through Schaller, despite people calling Schaller branded floyds they are selling as "Lockmeister," which is not the case. Annoyingly frustrating.

Yeah I’m sorta confused as to what they are actually selling or building now. The Lovkmeister doesn’t seem to be the same as what we know as the Schaller Floyd but a Newer version that does seem to have a different baseplate and options. At least from my quick look.

Yes I believe that now because Floyd Rose trems are USA built, Schaller makes the Lockmeister which is effectively the same as the German OFR, AND they do the classic smaller footprint Schaller Floyd.

And yes, the new radius options are fantastic. Even if you have to jump through some hoops to order, at least its an option.

Makes sense. It did look to be basically like a regular Floyd. The options are a nice touch. But I think for many of us, the appeal of the Schaller trem is just that. That it was different enough that one can prefer it over the other. I have All 3 main version. The OG Floyd’s, The smaller Schaller and Gotoh. I like em all and am fine with any really. But they each have slightly different qualities. If I HAD to pick a fave I might just pick the “old” Schaller

I agree (I think  ) that I like the old small Schaller, at least better than the old German OFRs. Right now I don't have any of the Schallers, but I do have a German Floyd and 3 Gotohs. I perhaps like the Gotohs more than the Schaller, but either way they are 1 and 2, with the "regular old German Floyd" being 3rd.

Its very hard to beat the price to performance ratio on the Gotoh. It doesn't really make sense for me to spend more money on a different unit unless I was trying to do some period correct piece.

Yeah price of the a Gotoh and it’s function which does seem to be a tad smoother overall is tough to beat. For builds for people other than me, I usually offer that first. For that very reason

I thought Floyd bridges were still German made by Schaller and not US made?

Looks like I misspoke. Per the Floyd website they are currently still made in Germany, but they did open a manufacturing facility in the states. Likely just a matter of time before they move the bridges over, and don't just do the saddles.

Pretty sure this is correct. I don’t know when but I did see they opened a state of the art manufacturing facility here in the States. And it makes sense Schaller has now started with the Lockmeister as their “main” trem as it most closely resembles the Floyd’s they were making for The ORiginal floyds
