At this point wouldn't it be better to get the Mark VII or the Petrucci version?

Yeah, most likely, though I'm sure some will just "have to" have the IIC+ due to the prestige of the amp.

Maybe. I think sometimes simpler is better when it comes to amps.

The JP2C isn’t the same amp. Aside from the power amp differences (Simul-Class vs 60/100) you also have all the push pull controls and the cascaded gains. Lead drive is preset on the JP2C for one as are the push pull sounds. The JP is a great amp and no doubt gets close. But it’s not the same.
Also, if you’ve never played a Mark III or earlier, it’s hard to appreciate how great and simple those amps are compared to the newer ones. I’ve owned a couple Blue Stripes and played a lovely IIB. They’re way less compressed than the modern Marks.

Yeah I'd say totally dependent on what your after
Price is definitely much lower that what I was initially anticipating. Considering folks are still trying to list loaded IIIs for $2k-3500, and actually IIC+ is like $12k having a current production more stripped down mark on the market is absolutely a good thing.
If these ever get down to like $2k used I'd be interested in biting

I'm excited to see what happens after the initial wave of gotta have it folks decide they're shit and buyer's remorse them into the used market. Though, I have to say, I'm impressed with how competitively they've priced them with the other current gen marks. I figured the nostalgia hit would be worth at least another few hundred bucks.
I could almost see me getting one if they hit decent used prices. A strong maybe.

I must be behind the times. $4k for any mark seems crazy to me. I’m a simple man though.
If i were buying an expensive new, full featured amp, i guess it would be like a $3600 bogner xtc.
So, pretty close to $4k.
