My nightmare is coming true

I'm at a gig now. Brought the IR-D rig and the sound guy has NO idea what he is doing. The guitar sounds awful and I can't barely hear it through the monitors anyway. I asked him to turn it up and it became a distorted mess. He is the nicest guy, just clueless so I'm not even mad.
Going on stage in 15 min and I'm dreading it already.
Fuck this DI bullshit man. I will NEVER be without my amp again. Puts me at the mercy of the soundguy.
Anyway, had to vent before I go do this atrocious gig. Thanks for listening.

Sorry man that sucks
I’ve had overwhelmingly good experiences with soundmen but had a situation once where a sound guy (it was his first day on his own at the venue) had NO IDEA what an auxiliary send was for our IEMs. During sound check finally got his boss on the phone and he explained that he just needed to pull the XLR from the stage monitors to the dude. But even then he was struggling with our mixes, and by accounts from people in the audience the FOH mix was a disaster too

This is like having a wake before someone dies.

It went better than I was expecting. He sort of got the hang of it after 2 songs and fixed whatever he was doing wrong. I'll post a clip later.
But still, I'm not doing this DI thing ever again. Not worth the heartache

Glad to hear things turned around at least a bit!!
I’ve basically sworn of DI of any kind for more personal reasons in jam spaces ahead of ever having to do that at a gig (although my last gig I did end up having to pull a captor DI for my IEM feed which I also hated)
I’ve also been told recently I’m just not using the -right- gear for DI currently
Fuxk all that
how many hundreds am I supposed to spend to emulate “proper” tone (still at a compromise of some kind I have no doubt) when my tone is already fucking epic

*for me* DI/Modelling/IRs always ends up liking bringing a dime home from the bar then waking up at 4am to her smoking H off of tin Foil in your bed

Hahaha thanks man
There are 2 different types of bad soundguys, those who are bad because they just don't give a shit or are frustrated musicians and would rather be onstage etc... those are infuriating
Then there the guys who are very cool and helpful but just not very knowledgeable or still learning. Completely different situation and you just gotta let him do the best he can and roll with it.
