The latest one is the one in the center. I routed for the neck pickup, added a 3 way switch and rewired it. I had a set of Angus Young High Voltage humbuckers, so I figured I'd put them in this one to see how I like them. Short answer: I do not. The other two guitars have Seth Lovers, and Guitar Fetish Alnico II Classics which sound pretty much identical. I hated the High Voltage set immediately, so they're coming out and I'll replace them with some Wolfetones I have. If I don't like those, I have another set of Seth Lovers ready to go in.

So I think three of these is enough. However, I did find a black Yamaha SG for sale that would go well with these three.

This is really well done man. I would have thought they're stock if I didn't know you modded them. Really clean job!!!

Was always curious on the high voltage pups. I have a traveler guitar that I put a bare knuckle riff raff in thats pretty good to my ears. Now I want a 24 fret SG

Thanks Bill. They really are a great mod platform. It helps that although they started out as very stripped down, basic versions of the SG, they are still a nice solid chunk of mahogany, and real rosewood fretboard. I'm also a big fan of the no-pickguard look. It's just a no-nonsense, no frills, straight ahead rock/metal machine. I love everything about these things. The neck is perfect for me, and they are relatively light and comfortable to play. Fortunately, none of my three have a neck dive issue.

I'm sure the High Voltage set is great and works just fine with a different set up, it just doesn't work for mine. The Seth Lovers respond like a higher output pickup whereas the High Voltage feel much lower gain, like the Lovers with the volume at half.

Oh yeah, I ended up skipping the Wolfetones and just put the Seth Lovers in this one. Not fucking around.

Seth Lovers are great pickups. I've been thinking about using them again. In the past I had issues with feedback with them because they are not potted but honestly I don't use that much gain these days.

I haven't had an issue at all with feedback so far, and I'm using a fair amount of gain. I am mostly playing my Uber with the gain at 1-2 o'clock and an SD-1 or Tubescreamer as a mostly clean boost. Of course I haven't been gigging or even playing with a band since I've acquired these guitars, so if and when I do, that may change things.

yeah these things tend to show up at band levels, usually during practice or on small stages. At a larger stage it's usually fine too. But if you have to stand less than 10ft away from your amp and it's turned up to a loud volume, it can be a problem. But I think I can get away with it at my current gain levels.


Btw, what didn't you like about the High Voltages? I was going to buy a set to try them out... now I am not sure
