Trying to pick the right od from my stash

Trying to finding the right od that jangles but also boosts.

Stuff i tried out today.
Fulltone ocd v1.1
Ocd 1.3
Ocd 1.7
Fulltone fulldrive 2 non mosfet
Maxon od808
Ts9 maxon built
Skreddy hybrid fuzz driver
Red llama clone
Barber Fuggedaboutit
Vick audio lotus
Eae limelight

The results:
Eae limelight - overall winner. The independent boost circuit is too good to deny. The base tone is very usable. The switching is easy and silent. Great design all around. Stacks beautifully.

Ocd og v1.1. This thing rocks. Perfect balance of chime and smoothness. Gorgeous. It stacks pretty well too. Those old switches are noisy though. Doesn’t stack quite as well as the limelight boost does into my spruce gale.

Skreddy hfd. Sounds great. Pretty good. Solid third place.

Red llama clone. Kind of fuzzy, but extremely interesting. Sounds cool.

The tubescreamers sounded awful with my setup, but I imagine it would rock in a band setting.

The vick lotus and barber Fuggedaboutit both sounded fine.

The fulldrive sounded weird. Kind of dull with a strange midrange spike. This was surprising since it has performed well in my personal shootouts. Noisy switches.

Ocd 1.3 was good, but not as good as v1.1. Noisy switch.
Ocd 1.7 had a very strange midrange. I used to love this pedal. Sounded bad today.

Do you have any Klones? That is my idea of a pedal that jangles but also boosts.

OCD v1.1 is killer indeed. I need to check out the EAE Limelight. I've heard great things about it.

funny enough I was on a similar mission since I got the Runt 50 a couple weeks ago.... the gain channel is great but I wanted something to take the clean channel to a chimey more pushed sound but still keeping the essence of the channel.... like Billy suggested I WAS going to use my Klone, but I accidentally hooked it up to the 18V output on my power supply and fucked it hard lol.... charge pump and the input protection diode fried, had the diode on hand to replace but no charge pump IC, so have one on order.... THANKFULLY i have way too many dirt pedals in my collection and just recently got a Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive and damned if that pedal didn't nail what I was looking for... sounds ok with the gain channel but I think it really shines with a clean amp/channel....

that being said..... I'm gonna have to check out the EAE Limelight.... sounds like a killer pedal

Great question. I do. Didn’t get a chance to use one today. I thought of a few more that need to be inserted into the matrix tomorrow for round 2.

Pce aluminum falcon (this is very faithful klone)
Eae halberd
Boss sd-1
Barber silver ltd

Thanks for the info! Am not familiar with the Limelight but will check it out.

I bought a Wampler GE Tumnus Deluxe and it is pretty cool. I like it much better than I thought I would since I always sell off Klones.

Nice. You are living my pedal dreams. Love the Limelight though, been thinking about putting mine back on my board recently.

Quick run through this morning.

Pce af1 klone - same problem as a tubescreamer. It’s designed to boost something for playing lead in a band. Weird midspike. Not flat enough.

Eae halberd. This is such a cool pedal. I guess it has 12 transistors. It does jangly flat really well. It stacks really well. Etc. i haven’t decided if it’s better than the limelight.

Barber silver ltd. Works great. This would be fine. But i must be biased toward eae pedals atm. They are just designed so well. And they stack really well with fuzz.

Btw, that vick lotus is still so intriguing. It’s a single transistor overdrive with fuzzy character. It’s kind if badass. It was so cheap. Too bad vick is out of business.

That's weird about the Klone. I don't think they have a mid spike, they seem to be pretty transparent... at least the ones I have are. :idk:

Eh, maybe the clean bleed just sounds plonky to me.

my experience with my Klone is once the gain is down and you're using it as a clean boost, it's transparent but once you start bringing in the gain there is a mid focus that comes in to play....
