Preface: "synthwave" is a modern genre that sounds like the 80's. It uses synths. It can be instrumental or have vocals. In general, it sounds like the music in Terminator 1, Bloodsport, or the intro to Stranger Things.
I love the idea and sound of synthwave, but there are a few fatal flaws and a potential opportunity.
1. Too much of it is made by DJs who are too heavily influenced by repetitive house/drum&bass/etc.. This includes the song structure and the fx(most notably, the low pass filter shit)
2. Too many of the songs sound the same.
3. The songs with lyrics usually suck. Some of the well known sythwave groups with singing have some REALLY pisspoor lyrics.
I think I can do a better job. I'm getting sick of my guitars ATM. I'll get to it.
FWIW, here is an example of a GOOD synthwave song from FM84. (It helps to bring in a pro singer like Clive Farrington from "When in Rome")

I wasn't familiar with it, but yes, this would qualify. Definitely more interesting than the subpar shit I've been hearing.

Thank you for the suggestion!
Glad you dig
It's a dreary day I need to spin Iteration haven't listened to this stuff in a while. Got turned onto him a while back because he's on the same label as Tycho

That ghost thing looks familiar. I think Deastro was on that label.
Not really synthwave, but awesome nonetheless.

The only three synthwave artists that have ever tickled my pickle are Carpenter Brut, Volkor X, and Perturbator. Everything else is too cheesy.
