Man been using JJ 12ax7s from eurotubes in my plexi/jcm800 style amps - listening to the new Vandenberg made me feel like my tone was kinda fizzy. Popped in some Sovtek 12ax7wb ‘s man I think it’s a much clearer tone. I dont wanna go down the whole nos rabbit hole, but what production 12ax7 tubes are you guys using in plexi/800 style amps??

1979 JMP 2204 - old Mullard in V1, JJ ECC83S in V2 & V3
1988 JCM 800 2204 - JJ ECC83S in V1, V2, & V3
2021 Epic Amplification AR50 (built on 2204 platform) - JJ ECC83S in V1, V2, & V3
2022 Mojotone 2204 - JJ ECC83S in V1, V2, & V3
I actually AB'd the old Mullard in V1 of my JMP with a JJ ECC83S and there was VERY little difference. Those JJ's are way better than the internet folks say.

Tungsol reissue in V1. JJ for the rest. Tempted by NOS for V1 at the least.

In my Metroplex it’s Mullard CV4004 reissues. That’s what George used when he built the amp and I’ve since replaced the originals with the same tubes. They’re great. In my Egnater Seminar Amp, I use a Tung Sol in V1 and JJ for the rest.

The 12AX7WB from Sovtek is pretty good for gain stages. I definitely like it, but generally it is JJs for me. Depending on the amp, I will use either the E83CC or the ECC803S for V1, and the original ECC83S for gain stages. I generally prefer the ECC803S for the PI. I like other tubes, but these get me to where I want most of the time.

If I remember right, you run the amps something like Mids dimed and all the rest of the EQ on 0?
