NAD

Post by ninjaraf »

Been keeping my eye out for decent prices on one of these. So many listed on reverb for $2200 or more. I did find a combo for $1500 on there a couple weeks ago but they cancelled the order. Found this one for the same price on GC. Which is about the top end of what I’d want to pay for one. But damn these things rule lol.

I like 5150s. The rest of you bullshit amps can get fucked.

Congrats!!!!!

I just got mine back from my tech (it was an export model so was having it rewired from 240 to 117v) so glorious sounding (especially through my closed back cabs lol). Dropping it off tomorrow now with the folks that are building me a headshell for it

Sadly, I think this has to go back to GC. The output control is not working right, and even after swapping tubes, something sounds off. The gain seems weak, and I have to almost max it out to get it somewhere usable, which is not really typical of these amps.

Assuming you swapped every tube? Thats a bummer

These sound so good. What pots are pulled?

Too bad it's borked, it's so common to get a bum amp from GC.

I'm kicking myself hard for not getting the IV combo locally for $700. This was a bit before the prices increased nearly overnight, it was still a steal back then. Then again the inside of these is not so fun to work on. A dumbed down 2 ch IV would be ideal.

Yeah, I swapped every tube, one by one.

Nothing is pulled in this video. They are really great amps when they work! Unfortunately, the a versions are getting older these days and are starting to have components fail. But I agree...too common to get fucked up amps from GC these days. $700 is a crazy deal for one!! And yes, 2 channel Mark IV would be awesome. With a simplified internal layout that actually makes sense lol

That’s a bummer :(

FWIW I have to have both gains on the lead channel set between 7 to maxed out to get my desired levels brutality, and it was just thoroughly went through by a tech :idk:
