NGD...but not for me

Post by ninjaraf »

Well, I do have a NGD that was supposed to happen today, but Fedex is a bunch of dicks, so gotta wait til Monday.

Anyway, my son started playing guitar in October (11 years old), and I got him a pretty cheap purple Jackson that he picked out at GC for xmas. I figured something cheap for now, see if he sticks with it, and then something nicer if he does. Well, he plays every day for hours. He's getting better and better, and learning Metallica songs (sort of). I've been letting him do his thing and build his interest, and I think soon it will be time to start showing him how to play these songs for real.

We've been taking GC trips, and the one by our old place is actually pretty decent. HUGE selection of guitars. They probably have 300-500 guitars on the walls there that range from cheap nonsense to $10k PRS private wood library stuff. He LOVES Metallica, so he wanted to play the Iron Cross and one of the KH signatures with the old movie paint job. Anyway...he said he really liked the Iron Cross. These are $1600 new, but I got this one with the HSC for $1050 off Reverb. His bday isn't until August, so I will be stashing it away until then, but it came yesterday and is basically brand new. The case even notes that it was build January of this year lol. He is going to be stoked.

This is so cool. 1. I’m a fan of the Iron Cross Hetfields to begin with. 2. You’re son is going to love this. I always felt that kids would be more motivated to learn and play with better gear than the starter shit we grew up with. I can’t fathom him not loving this. And as you know most LTDs are excellent guitars especially at the signature level. My KH-602 is outstanding.

I am incredibly proud that he wants to play, and he's shown he is really working at it. I've been taking him to shows, too. We saw Cannibal Corpse and Amon Amarth last month. Seeing Lamb of God and Mastodon next month. He's getting band t-shirts and wearing wrist bands and mostly black. He's getting into it!!

Same for me. I worked an entire summer to get an LTD V after my freshman year in high school. That was my first "legit" guitar. I am glad I'm able to give him something like this because my parents never would've been able to.

And we all know...if you have gear that inspires you to play, you will keep playing! Guitar has been such a positive influence on my life (except my bank account lolol), I hope it does the same for him.

Yeah, he will love it!

As an added bonus, my cousin talked about getting one of these for a while, but never did. So it's cool to have another reminder of him in the house.

Additional added bonus...I'm not giving it to him for like 7 weeks, so I am going to play it in the mean time haha.

Well yeah… you gotta make sure it’s setup right and can withstand the paki right hand of doom before you pass it on.

Excellent job! So envious! Despite all the friggen gear I amassed over the decades, my daughter plays the bass for the school jazz band, and my son the trombone. My son wants to join the friggen marching band now!

I would’ve gotten along so well with a metal-head son… Need not even be metal, anything guitar: Chet Atkins, Tim Henson, Wes, shit, even Segovia! Anything guitar! But the trombone?!?!

Good job, man. Good job.
