SS Posse

Post by Caulk Rocket »

Did someone finally do it right? Preamp, boost and gate in a fairly normal sized pedal. Also works as a regular distortion or a mid boost pedal in the other two modes. I think the TightMetal (Pro) was one of the first to do it, but it had a more grainy sound to it. I think they also switched owners...

DSM is cool. I had the Simplifier and it was a good sounding DI solution. For some reason they tend to be crapped on by the modeling guys, but I think it's great that they're expanding the boundaries of analog technology and making good sounding products.

I hadn't heard of the Ibanez pedal, this video sounds ok but not great. Could be user error though. But based on these videos I'd greatly prefer the DSM.

But let's not forget the company who actually started all of this, which is Tech 21. I've used many of their SansAmp gear with great results.

But in terms of modern companies I think DSM has the edge, both in terms of tone and functionality.

The Ibanez has such a wide range of tones due to the 5-band parametric that a real demo would be an hour long.

The Simplifier was only the third time I've ever seen an analog power amp sim. ADA was the first. Axiom being the second.

Tech 21 is awesome and the closest I've gotten to Marshall tones from a non tube pedal.

Once I get my Fryette Power Station PS-2A back in order, I think I'll have to dig out my 3 British pedal from the Character series.

Why hunt down out of production vintage Randall amps when the PSA could easily match the Dime sound (and 100 others)? They even had a present named after it. Paired with a nice rackmount EQ those things would destroy.

Now it comes in a fly rig. Still disappointed that they can't fit a noise gate into any of their new products...

Fuck it, I'd rather provide my preferred gate/suppressor than have then provide one that's not to my preference.
