I drove to Akron to pick this up from an ad on Facebook Marketplace. I’ve owned a 20w Silver Jubilee, two Friedmans, and a Bogner Shiva, but this is my first proper Marshall. Before today, it’s probably been at least 10 years since I’ve had a chance to play an 800.

It’s a 1982 Vertical Input 2204. Has Dagnall transformers and a Drake choke. It came with Svetlana reissue 6550s and JJ preamp tubes. I’ll probably have it converted to EL34s down the road, but it sounds great with as-is, so I’ll keep the 6550s in for now.

I spent all afternoon with it and haven’t stopped smiling I’ve gone through a ton of amps over the years trying to get this sound.

The Emperor cab is a few weeks old, but I never posted anything about it. I ordered it from Emperor on Black Friday. It came unloaded, but I found pair of UK-made Vintage 30s that I put in it.

The V30s are dated to September 1992. Those and the Marshall are the first pieces of gear I’ve ever bought that are older than I am

I was watching that one! Akron is only 45 or so minutes away but I have been trying to not buy stuff. Glad it sounds good.
