Time to replace the wireless for the guitar...

Post by jamminjohn »

I have used the Boss WL-50 for about 6 years now and it's starting to crap out.

Not sure I could go with a unit from amazon for $50 ( even for at home), so I think I'll

buy the same unit. Need something reliable for this year. We play at least every other weekend come this summer.

The Shure unit looks good, but a little high for my taste, but the Boss has done me good for years, so.......

or, should I be looking at something else?

If I was going to but a more expensive wireless it would be the Shure pedal. For shure :D

But the way I see it is if I going to spend any real money on it, I might as well get the nicest one so it will last a long time.

But again I didn't have any issues with this one so far and it's at a price I don't feel bad about replacing it every few years.

My WL50 started seemingly getting more susceptible to interference around last year.... not sure if that's the units fault or if more devices were using the 2.4gHz frequency.... but I noticed big drop off in range and consistency of signal.... just went back to wired connection... no biggie.... im not running around big ass stages any way
I can't remember what my signature was..... I'm sure it was something interesting..... :quote:

I used a line 6 g50 for about 10 years. Upgraded to the Shure for the tuner maybe 5 years ago and haven’t looked back. Works great, never cuts out, tuner is awesome. But they were also like $350-$400 when I got mine.

Also should mention…I moved away from the line 6 because it started cutting out with some of the new venues wireless monitoring systems. The Shure hasn’t cut out once at the same venues. It has a 3 channel fan in system that constantly searches for the best signal and switches on the fly as needed.

IMO, I would just suck it up and buy the Shure GLXD16+

It's expensive because it's the best and never fails and is basically immune to any and all environmental anomalies that have given the 4 or 5 different wireless systems I've used in the past problems. I've had mine for about a year and it hasn't given me an ounce of trouble. Our bass player and singer/ryhthm player have the previous version and they've been using them for maybe 8 or so years I've been with the group and again, I've never seen either of them have any problems.

The previous generation Shure is great too but I like the new one's ability to have a cable plugged in for a quick cable standby in the event that something does go wrong or you wan to use your board with a cable coming from your guitar without having to unplug and swap cables.
Too much junk to list with 255 characters.

I’ve been using a 5.0ghz Lekato off of Amazon for over a year. Has worked perfectly. If I was going to be super far from the transmitter (it’s on my pedalboard) I MIGHT get something more expensive but this thing has been rock solid.

Yep, same experience. I'm always in front of the pedalboard so the wireless basically needs to transmit 4ft up, and the Lekato has been great.

Although I usually step off the stage during soundchecks to hear the sound from the audience's perspective and I have been 20-30ft away from the pedalboard without any issues.

It's normal for technology to get better and cheaper, so I wouldn't discount an unit just because it's 50 bucks. The Lekato has been a good system for me.

So I ordered the Boss. Already have one, I will have an extra part that works.
I appreciate the responses and I knew they would run the gamut.
I don't think I can justify 500 beans on the shure, but it would be nice.
I'm 67 so this should be my last wireless :cop:

However, I may get the Legato to try for fun

:rawk: :usa:

I've considered the Lekato for band practice and stuff. I probably will get it eventually. The Shure is perfect for me for stage use since I use a tiny Rockboard pedal board that only fits 3 pedals, and having the tuner built in saves me a space...so I can have wireless/tuner, noise gate, and delay. I also run that board on a Rockboard battery pack, which works great.

Yeah honestly if I had the Shure I probably wouldn't bother getting the Lekato.

But I got the Lekato as a gift, and I feel no urgency to upgrade it. It's doing what is supposed to do really well.
