I used to play 7s and tune my 6s down to at least D flat, if not C or B. For decades I tuned down.. But for the last few years Ive been sticking to E flat.. Just felt right.. But Ive been slowly getting the feel back for lower tuned stuff.. And to some degree, I think this amp *might* be its strongest suit is lower "modern" metal type tones.. And while I generally don't mic and use these Mesa 8 ohm V 30s I have in my custom cab, they do sound good still.. And what says modern but some sort of 5150 and Mesa Vintage 30s! haha.. I NEVER utilized this formula cause it was so played out.. But I legit havent tried it with my el34.. So lets see if it does "modern".. I just made up the riff om the spot to the drum loop.. I used my PV HP Special with the Stock US Made PV HP special pickups.. They really are fucking killer pickups..

Those amps are one of the better amps out there for modern metal. I've got a lot of play time on the 50w and I loved the amp quite a bit. Would love to try the 100w, clip sounds great.

Sounds killer man!!!!! I do think the 5150s are THE tone for modern metal. The whole style was built around these amps (both Peavey and EVH).

It's a bit like hard rock and Marshalls, there a lot of amps that can do it just fine but the Marshalls will always be the standard they're judged against.

Sounds fucking good. I've noticed the V30s seem to handle the drop tuning stuff super well in high gain situations.

Oooooh disregard what I said before. The 65s low end is so much better, and A/B'ing them I'm reminded of why I don't gel with V30s haha. Just listening to the V30 clip does sound good, but just not as good as the 65s imo

i agree, not surprising though as the 65 has become my favorite speaker at the moment

Yeah it’s kinda crazy how lean the low end is by comparison. It’s actually a lot more than even the clips show. Cause for the v30s I barely had to cut lows and the 65 I definitely had to high pass…
