Lets talk Theieles (new cab day)

There's a MC90 loaded 1x12 thiele local to me for $375 (that's his lowest price) that I'm thinking about grabbing. Is that a fair price? There's also an EV loaded one for $500 but I'm not really trying to spend that much/don't know if I could bring myself to spend that on a used 1x12

I tried my Mark IV through my t75 loaded 2x12, and while I liked the low end response a lot, I don't think it was enough to sway me into going the head conversion route. Worst case scenario I can really think of is it just ends up being a stepping stone towards that and I still end up with a cool 1x12 that I could use with most of my amps and something I could bring to random jams if I wanted to bring a head but not a 2x12 cab

What do you guys think? seems like mark iv mini stack will give me the best of both worlds

Go with the EV loaded Thiele.

I started with the MC90 loaded one, and then spent another $200 or whatever on an EVM to replace it. No comparison the EVM is head and shoulders better.

So $500 is a fair price? Or is there a lower offer that would still be reasonable for both of us ?

A little banged up, and a little over 2hr round trip for context

I bought one of these new for my Mark V25, and I didn't like this cab for what I play. Mine had an MC90, which I was not into. I swapped it for a Mesa V30, and it was better, but the porting on this wasn't tight an percussive enough for me. Most people love these cabs, though, and I imagine you will, too.

I don't know about value, but I paid $550 new with the MC90 in like 2014 or something.

Hmm, not tight and percussive sounds like a bit of a concern to me, as the whole reason I'm considering a mini stack iss to enhance tightness/percussiveness on high gain stuff

Hmmm, I'd offer less based on the condition. Maybe $400-450?

The Mark V25 was more than likely the issue, coupled with the V30... which is not the ideal speaker for the Thiele design.

my EVM loaded thiele hits like a 4x12 and coupled with a small Mesa combo is a massive sounding rig.

I never tried one with the EVM, so I can't comment on that.

I had a smaller 112 cab with the Mesa V30 in it before the Thiele that I got for $125 shipped off ebay. The V25 with that cab WAS tight and percussive. But you know how the internet goes...makes you wanna try different shit. The MC90 wasn't more tight or percussive than the V30, just different.

IME, ported cabs are generally not tighter than non-ported cabs. They tend to be more bloomy and wide in the low end. This has been true for the Earcandy Buzzbombs, Thiele, and the Randall ported cab I had. I probably just don't like ported cabs, so fuck whatever I say haha. Just passing along my experience. Also, you are playing very different music than I do, so maybe your perception will be different, or the cab will fit your needs differently than mine.

I'm probably somewhere between you two tonally :

I play post rocky jam band music that I'm on the clean channel for the majority of the time with periodic passages of brootz chuggy high gain

I offered $400 on the EV. we'll see what he says :idk:

I primarily use mine for playing hard rock and more high gain stuff than I do with my other rigs. I'm not running my Jube, Dr Z or Fenders through it. I just know it takes my boxy/flat sounding .50 cal combo and turns it in to a rig that will keep up with a 4x12 with ease in both volume and thump.

But I don't play metal so there is that

That's very true. I've noticed I prefer to run the Thiele with the combo because they kinda balance each other out.

Also I hate EL84 powered Mesa amps so I want to blame them just because I hate them.
