VHT slant 4X12 stock speakers?

I came across a CL ad today, fellow selling essentially 2 new 12" 8ohm Swamp Thangs - very happy. I bought a VHT slant 4X12 some months back, but never took a peek inside. The guy selling it was adamant it was loaded with P-50es, which based on my internet look around seemed correct. Imagine my surprise when I found 4 of these. Did VHT ever ship any VHT cabs with anything other that P-50eS? I have some experience with this brand/model from years ago, but in this cab they sound .... overly bright? (insert your own internet keyword here)

No, never. Someone took the P50Es out and put these in. Dick move IMHO
I actually like V30s but that's besides the point.

Could have been much worse... I'm ok with v30's too. If i'm sitting in front of my cab at bedroom levels I get the complaints of ice pick to the brain, but at loud rehearsal volumes, they sound good to me. As for p50s' I do want to try them with my ultralead just to see.

It certainly could have been much worse. You have a Pitbull 100 UL? I don't suppose you have any interest in selling it?

I thought not. Yeah, kinda unfortunate as I was really looking forward to seeing what the P-50Es are all about. At least the resale potentials for V30s is pretty good, if I decide to swap things out.

There's an old story where the guy from VHT learned there were different versions of the V30 and that Mesa had a custom OEM version of the V30, then asked if he could do the same myself. Celestion initially said yes, then said no. If I remember correctly it was one of the factors that drove them towards the P50.

Is that one of them? I donno. Can't remember the year (probably early-to-mid 90s), and I don't know if he ever got any V30s before Celestion changed their mind. The attachments are too small for me to read the product code or see if the label is English or Chinese.

Best I can tell is that the bottom/top plates look cast instead of machined, so it's likely not a Mesa version.

Yup, and probably not an amp I'd sell. Its one of my all time favorite amps to play for sure.

Sucks it didn't come with the OEM speakers, that said...They're ok(P50's). I prefer them to V30's, but they aren't like a holy grail sound for me.

I would be seriously just as happy (or happier) with:

Eminence:
Tonker
Wizard
Man-o-war
CV75
cannabis rex
red white and blues
swamp thang
the other series something

Celestion:
G12T75
80's

Warehouse:
H30's
80's

Weber probably anything
EV anything
JBL anything

P50Es are my favorite. Fryette also had a deal with Fane at one point. The closest thing I've heard that was comparable are the DV-77s. Both are kind of like a V30 but tighter and without the spike in the high mids.

Keep an eye out for the deliverance cab. It's better than the fatbottom imo.
