D String buzzing against the 1st fret

Post by VinDSL »

Yeah, this is now happening on my LP? Does anyone know the best fix for this? I tried raising my bridge stupidly high, no dice. I don't think it's a truss rod adjustment since the other strings are fine. A friend of mine suggested but talcum powder and super glue in the slot to try and raise it up. Or is a new nut the best solution?

I have used the superglue mixed with something like talcum powder to raise the slot bottom a bit and it worked. Eventually I did just have a new bone nut installed. Can't remember exactly what I used to mix with the superglue but it worked.

It’s prolly a little of both, the truss rod needs adjusting and obviously the nut slot is “too deep In the D”. Honestly not much is needed besides just super glue in the slot. You’ll still need to likely file it back down to fit tho.

If you have a good repairman in town, usually a new nut cut by a pro and set up better than new will give the most desired results. But a lot of guys out there do some bad nut work! Cause it’s rare just one gets low by chance. Much of the time it’s usually pretty indicative of a poorly cut nut to begin with. Not always, but there’s a 60/40 chance it’s not all that great.
