Well, the rig sounds good, in a perfect world. But the problem with DI is unless you're using IEMs or have your own sound crew, you're at the mercy of the Bubba they hired to run the sound at the venue. Last night we had a last minute gig filling in for another band and I decided to take the DI rig. Regretted the decision as soon as I heard the guitar out of the monitors. People commented it sounded okay out front, but man I had a miserable time trying to wrangle the horde of mosquitoes that were coming through the wedges. Not to mention it was a small stage and the drums were right up to my ears so I could barely even hear the guitar, which might have been a good thing because I hated the little I heard. But I was practically flying blind, just putting the fingers where they are supposed to go and hoping it was sounding right.

Just a miserable experience overall, never again. I will bring my amp moving forward. It sucks to be out on a gig until 12AM on a fucking wednesday and not even be able to enjoy the gig properly.

Small stage? Not sure if I would want to stand right next to an amp at gig levels, but... sure, why not?

I feel you man.... my band generally only goes direct if we are supplying the PA and we hire the engineer... the only time we didn't do it that way was with an engineer we've known for a loooooooooooong time... as in 20+ years... and that was a mostly acoustic gig where I still played electric guitar, the direct rig was my amp in to my Captor X.... I would never trust some random dude to mix my band direct...
I can't remember what my signature was..... I'm sure it was something interesting..... :quote:

yep, the IR-D. It is a good sounding preamp. Nothing wrong with it but fuck DI altogether

well, it's not a plexi on 10. It has a master volume. But at least I'd be able to hear my guitar the way its supposed to sound. Or hear it at all, even.
